its 1/2 inch thick birch wood from home depot. its not that heavy surprisingly. reason its not aluminum, is because once that shit bends your fucked. if the wood breaks its gonna cost me like 30 dollars to make a new one lol. and its fully functional. i really dont care about the fact that its wood, its cheap and it works.

breaks my heart to see people putting a plywood spoilers on BMWs...
what happened to tasteful modding? this isn't Eclipse and it's not Fast and Furious in Japan in 2004 to make it look like this!! I see the wind spoiler is on its way though and probably some flame like stickers.
Poor car I say!

reminds me of..

The splitter reminds me of Top Gear's splitter they made for the 330d they raced in the Britcar 24.

I'll support the wood usage if it's light and functional. Most spend hundreds on (light I guess) but no function and WHEN they f it up they are f'ed. I'd do the wood lip in a heartbeat like it came out like that. Hell, I'd make spares!

Came out great man. I liked the mint before the flares as well... A lot. This is an awesome look too. I love the JDM styling, exact same direction I'm taking my car as well. Great job on the execution.

pretty sure that isn't going to provide any "function". if anything it will detract from it.

What are you basing this statement on? Wood has been used effectively as a front splitter on a lot of different platforms. The point, regardless of material used, is to create downforce on the front end. If you need a technical explanation of aerodynamics and the benefits of a splitter, perhaps you should read this: http://aprperformance.com/index.php?...=174&Itemid=44

It really doesn't matter what you use as long as it's a solid construction that won't buckle under the stress of the high pressure air generated by the splitter. Carbon fiber, Metal, Wood, Injection molded plastic, Fiberglass, whatever. The same principles still exist. I'm a pilot so I understand the properties of aerodynamics pretty well.

If wood was useless for the direction of airflow, there wouldn't have been aircraft using it for construction of flight control surfaces back in the early 1900's.
