Well, I took the plunge. Finally got around to using the video feature of my dSLR. One of my friends was asked to make a Fisker promo video, so I'm helping out with that.

well my friends, i am selling my bmw. i'll probably still show face around this subforum after she's gone, but i just wanted to gather everyone for a farewell to my beloved car that has brought me so much joy!

i need a four door vehicle for me and my son, and since i cannot afford an equally fun car with four doors at the moment, i opted for a completely different driving style that i can afford while raising a kid and growing my businesses - a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. i just couldn't step down into another "car" that just felt like a rental or loaner (i would have needed a well-equipped 335i sedan or an A4, a base model 328i just couldn't do it for me after driving such a fun coupe for the past 4 years).

so that's that.

carry on.

No need to leave on the basis you don't own a BMW anymore mate - Your photographic input is appreciated. You'll be back in one before you know it - I'm waiting for a 1 or two year old 4 series..

Yep, I only had a BMW for about 4 or 5 days at the beginning of 2012 before I sold it, and didn't get back into one until 3 weeks ago. Once a BMW owner, always a BMW owner.

Which is why I have sedans.
Enjoy your Jeep, son and leave your Flickr account here for us to enjoy. ;-)
At any rate, I don't think a BMW ownership is necessary for the photography part of the forum.

Lol, another member who bailed on BMW for a jeep

I've been BMWless since the beginning of December. Don't feel like you're offending anyone.

The Z4 is going on the market as soon as the weather gets better. The X5 will be trade-in bait once it's paid off in October. Right now it looks like I'll be jumping ship to Mercedes. I'll still be posting here, though.

You know we're talking about rodi here, right?

All joking aside, your bearded self better not be leaving these forums just because you're selling the 1er. I really appreciate your photos/videos and your terse, tactless reviews of other people's photos.

Oddly enough, if I end up moving to MN sometime this year, I may also get a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited...

Depends. Either a new C350 or a CPO E350. I'm not big on the newer 3 or 5 series. I like the looks of the new Mercs better. And I think the interiors are better on the Mercs. Now that I'll be putting less than 10k miles per year on my car, I may even lease.

Oh my..
I guess I will have to address you as "Sir" now.
Test driven one yet?
I'd jump ship for an A4. I almost had one but they wanted to give me an interest rate of 5% or so. They buckled for 1.9 while I was at the BMW dealer doing paperwork.
They are very sexy now, I remember the 80's nightmare styling years.

I'm going for comfort. I don't need sport seats or sport suspension. My aging butt needs to be comfy for long hauls back east. That's why I'm leaning towards a leased E series. Smooth-riding comfort.

i'd totally get a current year C-sedan!! love the new designs.

i'll stick around!

edit - that CLA looks really nice, too. wonder what they're doing to it to keep it at such a low starting price of $29k.

That is a concern for me. That's a very inexpensive price point for a Mercedes.
I'm wondering if its merc going after the 1 series and the A3 market.

I'm also wondering if it is based on the a or b class chassis, but both of those are front wheel drive.

I saw the stand where it was supposed to be today when touring the Toronto auto show. And I was disappointed to see it empty, I'm very curious about the car.

Also, glad you're sticking around

Probably having some $2-5K packages that you need.

It will be the cheapest vehicle in Mercedes’ American lineup, trying to attract new, and younger buyers to the brand. From launch, the CLA will have a 208 hp turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine with 258 lb-ft of torque. It should be matched to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The CLA will offer front-wheel drive, along with the option of Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel drive system.

I'm about to buy another lens soon to add to my gear bag, damn this expensive hobby is so addicting!

Anyway I have a 5d mk3 and currently have a 17-40 f4L and a 50 f1.4
I'm thinking of either getting a 70-200 f2.8l is II or a 85mm f1.2L II. Both are nearly the same price but have very different, well somewhat different, uses. I can use both for portrait, but I'm looking for a more general lens I can always use for anything. Been leaning towards the 70-200 because of it's insane IQ and sharpness and wide range of use
Question: which one would you guys prefer to use? Have any experiences with each that you want to share?

Love my 70-200 (Even if its Nikon's) and this would be the first lens I would ever buy if it would need to be done again.

I know we're talking about two different lenses (Canon and Nikon), but they both share a lot of Pro's

Its simply the best lens for sports, wildlife (Without going Tele), candid shots, and many more uses. It has an amazing reach when combined to a teleconverter and is really fast and got amazing VR.

I have the 70-200 2.8 MKII joined to a 5DMK III and the two have rarely been separated. The 85mm is definitely a lens I would love to have if I were going to do a bunch of professional head-shots but other than that, I would prefer the 70-200 because of it's versatility and it doesn't get much better in IQ for a zoom lens.
