If BMW or any manufacture can make efficiencies (Engines that are efficient with high performance attributes e.g. 500HP or better) such as the ones made in Motosport (Now we are talking M's), then I suppose they are smart enough to make a smaller engine, e.g. 2.8 litre V8 as used in F1. I suppose they can... No? With all the Revving attributes aside, the point is they can make an engine with some acceptible and affordable level of efficiency.

Well I'm pretty sure I get what you're saying, but my point is that in F1 the engines are capable of such output because they're not carrying the burden of being reliable, long-lasting engines. They can get so much out of a sub-3000cc engine because they're able to get those things to rev out to ridiculous numbers, and they have a host of cutting edge variable this-and-that.

I'm saying that it's simply not as efficient to have a N/A engine producing the same numbers as an FI'd one. The higher it has to rev, the more gas it has to consume, for the mostpart.

high revving NA > high torque TT V8 at the track.... torque doesnt mean squat at the track, unless of course you drive your car at 1500rpm

i'm not believing it till i see it either.

Yes I read on M5board V12 TT, 540~ hp....

This means the M5 / M6 will have more.

I don't think it is going to be a turbo....can't see it happening....


BTW, the new SL65 Black will be introduced in the German Grand Prix on July 18th.

is that why mercedes went from a 5.4L Supercharged V8 to a 6.2L NA V8...

You can't make such a general assumption, its just igornant.

I really hope BMW doesnt bastardize the M brand by using FI. Also, unlike mercedes, as far as i know BMW M has never taken an engine from an existing BMW and tuned it, they have always created their own.

The main reason for the possibility of a FI move for future M cars is the drive down of CO2 levels that BMW are very active in and that includes all models.

For a start look at the difference in economy and CO2 figures between the RS6 and M5, even forgetting the power difference you have to admit that BMW through all of their efforts can't make their V10 produce any other power without producing even worse economy and CO2 levels.

Unless they dramatically increase the capacity I can't see how BMW can continue with N/A engines on the bigger cars at the very least.
