Funny how everyone was saying it would never happen, but the times come for the M's to be turbo'd as well. I wonder if that'll turn a lot of people off. No more N/A M's.

twin turbos offer more efficiency and more torque at low rpm, and with the DCT, it'll suit the average buyer better.

That article is not very definitive, "BMW may begin straying... the twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 ... could be stroked out"

I would not hold my breath if you are an FI fan. BMW's motorsport identity is wrapped around F1 these days and there are no turbos there.

In the latest Roundel, a BMW exec was quoted stating BMW will move from V8/10 engines back to 4 and 6cyl engines and use turbos more. The next 7 series will only have a turbo 6 and NA V8 available.

If they are going to meet future CAFE standards, they need to bump large engines.

I am surprised at the negative reactions from some people at the thought of a non N/A engine powering an M car. All models in every range have to become more efficient and that includes the M models as well, N/A hi-revving engines aren't as economical as a forced induction engine and when exercised correctly as no doubt BMW M-Division would do a twin turbo V8 M5 would be the business.

The end result is what's important, not how it's achieved.

The F01 7 series will have a V12 turbo engine as the 760i is still to come (announcement anytime this or early next year).

Best regards, south

It's not surprising at all. In fact, I made a post a while back stating that it won't be long until they begin putting turbos on M cars. When you think about it, you can kind of see it coming.

Except the new 7 has a TT V8...

I'll be disappointed if this end up happening, an M just won't be the same without being N/A much the same way many prefer the GT3 to the Turbo because it has more soul and character.

Turbos are good for the little brothers BMW. I am not so sure at this time that having a twin turbo in an M proves anything because as far as efficiency, BMW Motorsport uses a high performance tuned 2.8 litre producing 900HP in F1. This would suggest that twin turbos for the M are not actually needed to produce more power and efficiencies.

Umm...I guess this would be true...if our engines could rev out to 20,000 RPM...
