Final Generation Z4 rolls out: Future Z4 Beast!
This past Thursday the final BMW Z4 of the current generation rolled off the production line at BMW's Spartanburg manufacturing plant in North Carolina. It marks the end of an era for the facility which has built more than 200,000 Z4s over the past seven years with production being shifted over to Germany for the new model. “It’s been a great car for the plant and although the BMW Z4 put us on the map, it doesn't define us” said Bobby Hitt, BMW Manufacturing spokesman referring to the future plans of the facility. The plant is currently undergoing a massive $750 million expansion which will add a 1.2 million square foot assembly facility as well as expand the paint shop. The results will see the X5, X6 and the next generation X3 assembled at the plant. The next generation model is expected to debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, it may be unveiled as a concept version initially but as with previous BMW concepts (M3,X6), styling would not differ much come production time. BMW will continue to offer a large range of engines which will include the twin-turbo 3.0-liter from the 335i and the Z4 M is set to get the new 4.0 liter V8 from the M3. There are also rumours of a diesel being available. September 2, 2008 5:00 PM by Clinton Deacon Filed Under: Corporate/Financial BMW |

Tell that to the Audi R10's. I don't see them as lumbering elephants....

That's a surprise. One, that BMW is announcing there will be another Z4M and two, that it's getting the S65B40. They tend to delay announcing the Ms because they want people to buy the regular ones instead of waiting, and I figured they would be shying away from thirstier engines like the S65 to lower their emissions rating in the EU. A third surprise would be if the new Z4M is faster than my modestly improved one.

I wonder what the next gen. will look like. Im not too fond of the front of this gen. Z4...The rear looks great but front could use some work.

This is just another fluff piece by some worthless media outlet re-hashing all the current rumor and speculation. Its easy to speculate about the N54 setup being in the new Z4. Its easy (but likely wrong) to speculate about the S65B40 being part of an early introduction new M model. But CITE SOME CREDIBLE SOURCES, geez. IMO, just another article basing its 'facts' on the internet. I'll wait until the official announcement comes from BMW. |

Honestly, from my experience at the Homecoming, The Last Z4 was a 3.0i convertible, loaded minus sport package. It was built in South Carolina (haha) and was presented to all the Homecoming attendees. The pics that I posted in the other thread was taken by me from inside the factory when the Last Z4 was presented. It was a sad sight, but not all bad cause BMW is only building on the greatness of the current gen Z4 to build and construct a better, stiffer, more powerful Z.

Johnathan,
Sounds like you took it that the photo was the picture of the last Z4. I took it as just a stock photo representative of the car. Not the "actual" last Z4. Chuck |

Yeah, that didn't even occur to me that that was a stock photo. As Reach said, it's just another fluff piece of media.

Either way, I would be even happy to see the 335i's engine in the new Z. But but, i hope it looks ugly so I could get into a 4 seaters and instead of getting another roadster. |
