US F30 OEM Adaptive Xenon Retrofit DIY

Please see the google doc link for the DIY for US spec F30 OEM adaptive Xenon retrofit. It is 90% complete and I work on it a little each day, but it is more than enough to get you started. I have this in my car for over a month now with no issues. I am still in the process of getting the auto level sensors to work, but should not be much longer.

Please use this thread to discuss this specific DIY and ask questions related to the DIY. If you need any clarification, picture adjustment, or more pictures please just ask.

Here is the link:

wow. Amazing detail in the Google doc. How much do you have invested in this from a time and money standpoint.

WOW. Can I just pay you to do this for me? OH wait you're in FL...

How much $ in parts alone? What an insanely detailed write up. You should patent and market that man. Insane. This is far more of an undertaking than I'd be willing to do. I'm really just going to have to get the parts and pay through the nose for the retrofit.

Just in starting to price shop, it looks to be around $1500 USD if you are lucky enough to find all the parts at a reasonable price. The hardest part for me so far has been locating the driver control modules and the led modules, both of which seem to be hard to find used, but new just for those modules would be around $900.

Thanks for the words. All in, I was around $1500. But it is certainly possible to be at 1200 or less if you are patient. When searching for parts just be patient, use vague search terms (bmw module, f30 module, etc), for eBay make sure you include international in search, set up search alerts for part numbers, for driver control module use 7316186 to search, etc.. You will likely have to get led modules at dealer unless you can find complete headlights. Check car-part.com for used headlights as well and always conform what's included with the headlight when buying.

pennektj: time wise, it took me a few months to gather all the necessary parts. on top of that I was not working with any kind of guide so I had to spend extra time figuring things out. I had to buy almost every electrical connector BMW sold for this car to find the right ones to use. As far as install time, it wasn't that bad, even without instructions. With this DIY, I cant imagine just the lights (without the level sensors) taking more that two hours, three tops if you are anal about electrical connections and want to be perfect.

Also, I am still not done with the DIY. I have to still add in the detail for the headlight removal and install. I have just been a little busy. Once done I will let you know.

All parts I ordered arrived today. Lamps are already assembled.

I got my screws from Home Depot, as it's nearer. Part # 25411, Crown Bolt #8 x 5/8" Pan Head Slotted. 12pcs per pack so I only used 2 packs with some left still. Zinc coated so ideal for outdoor application. Now, I'm itching to start the retrofit, damnit

The brow and angel eyes dim when the headlights are on. But I assure you they are on. There is a way to code for them to stay full brightness while the headlights are on, but I haven't done it.

This will work in any F30 except the wiring and parts are different. I would say at least the headlight control modules will be different to take into account driving on the wrong side of the road ;p. Also, I know most euro spec cars have manual leveling functions. This results in different wiring in the harnesses. It actually makes it a little easier. Someone else was working on doing a retrofit for those, Aloo6,but not sure of his progress. If there is really a demand for it, I can maybe write up the difference one day if I ever get time, but I am hoping someone else does first

Ok, so the brow is lit then. It's just the angle of the shot that made it look turned off. Thanks.

my bad, he referenced the F20 not 320.. 320 should still be good to go.. I thought that didn't make much sense

I still have not had a chance to work on autolevelers, but my advice would be to wait on that part of the retrofit until one of us figures it out.

However, I did update the coding section to reflect that to disable the autoleveler malfunction you must code LWR_AHL_TYP = ohne. The previous recommendation of changing C_BLC_ENA did not eliminate error, but it is now gone.

I am taking my car in for service tomorrow which is why I wanted the error gone.

I'm really quite intrigued, but I need to get my hands on the software and a cable to get familiar with coding before I start to shop for parts.

So you have everything aside from autolevel working as it should, without any errors or other oddities?

Coding is really easy, took my like 15 minutes to learn on my own.

Yes, everything but the autolevelers are working at the moment. They are adaptive, turn with steering wheel, and I have had them working for months now with no problems. No errors except for the autoleveler malfunction which you can turn off with the coding I put in the DIY. Hopefully I can find a fix soon though..

Seems to be what I read everywhere, and the more difficult part will be obtaining the software and setting that up. With Netflix and Pandora I'm really far out of the torrent/pirating game these days.

No torrents needed. Just message ShawnSheridan on this thread
http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=696777
and he will give you a download link to newest software. He will explain that you need a token/license which cost like $30 for a year.
