Hi,
I just contacted birds about getting an LSD on my 335i MSport DCT. Being welded it won't be as cheap as some of the earlier models.
I'm wondering then, does it matter if I get an LSD before having a remap or would it be better to do it the other way around?

Without a LSD you cannot use all the performance available from a standard car, let alone a tuned one ! (especially in the damp/wet, or with RF tyres).

A trip to Bird's for a LSD was the first trip I did in the car after picking it up.

It will transform the car, do it ASAP, you will not be disappointed !

Hey thanks Merlin,
so does anyone know if this makes the 0-60 or even 0-100 mph times lower?

Also, once the LSD is fitted, is it a case of turning off DTC (the single press, not complete disabling by holding for 5 seconds) to stop the braking from cutting in? What setup do you guys use for road and track?

Thanks again

I doubt the LSD will help with 0-60 times...The main benfit of the LSD I have found is that it makes the power delivery much more predictable on damp/poorly surfaced roads.

I found before having the LSD fitted, even with the engine stock, when pushing the car on an average UK B road the TC would cut in randomly when your trying to accelerate quickly, which made the driving experience not very fun. With the LSD installed the TC would rarely if every cut in, and only when I known am really pushing the car. In wet/damp conditions the difference is quite noticeable even at mundane speeds.

If you just want a quick 0-60 time at the traffic light GPs than the LSD is probably not a good investment, but interms of driving fun its a great mod

I think since my LSD was installed (in 2009) I have had the DTC lights flash once and that was when I was caught in a sudden snowstorm with summer compound tyres.

I live just a couple of miles from work and I don't often have the TC light come on but I've only had the car less than 2 months.
I plan to get a remap but I'd like my car to be as good as it can be within reason. I need to get a few runs on tracks to really find the limits of the car. I know they are far higher than I dare try at this point. I imagine the standard car can really be pushed while all traction and stability controls are active.

I also want better brakes, a spare set of alloys for winter tyres and maybe a nice bonnet. Possibly vented like an M3, maybe lighter.

Looking at the Birds website. Currently between £1500-2000 once VAT is added depending on gearbox.

There was a group buy probably 12-18 months ago, cannot remember the price but it was a decent saving.

I had my Quaife installed in December for E93 DCT and it was just shy of £2,000

Expensive but DEFINITELY worth it. I have the luxury of being able to drive my E92 335i and the Missus' E93 335i back to back and the difference is just incredible.

It's an intereting read as my 335i has had full Birds suspension and Quaiffe lsd fitted. However I do get the dtc light flickering quite a bit which I wouldn't have expected and confirmed with the initial write up here.

Wonder how can tell if the lsd is still on the car or not???

I think if it has an LSD, then if you put the car on a lift/stands, then spin one rear wheel by hand, the other rear wheel should spin in the opposite direction.

In the current road conditions your tyres will loss grip quickly regardless of the LSD.

The LSD makes the car much more predicable at the point when grip is lost. The problem is if you haven't driven a 335 without a LSD you have no experience to compare too.

Interesting. Diffs would do that anyway I would have thought whether lsd or not.

I did think that as I bought mine in December the weather has meant I'm probably not seeing the benefit of it due to the road conditions.

It is true though that not driving one in the same conditions without an lsd does make it difficult to see the difference.

Birds confirmed it was fitted and tbh don't think either Mike or Nik would have removed it so it's all good.
