For those people like myself regretting not getting the iPod/USB connection..
So just got my 2009 328 x drive coupe
I didnt order the ipod/usb hookup because I'm an idiot. Well I just put about 500 songs onto my iPhone and now I want it. I read a couple of threads on here that you cannot have the dealer install it after the fact. Someone slap me with the obvious stick - but cant you just use the aux hookup in the center console and plug it into the headphone jack on the iPhone and run it like an MP3 player? Now that I think about it, I am going to go try it. Jeff **EDIT** Yep that works lol - well I guess I am glad now that I didnt spend the extra money on that option - just a $20 cable from best buy and I am good to roll Hopefully this helps people that are as clueless as I was about 3 minutes ago

The advantage of having the Ipod/USB interface is that you can control the Ipod from the steering wheel, you can read on the radio display the name of the tracks, search your playlists, etc.
You are correct the dealer can't install the Ipod/USB adapter but they do install the Ipod interface, is a bit different from the factory installed adapter but it lets you control the Ipod from the steering wheel.... good luck!!!!

Yup...installed the "ipod interface most adapter after I ordered my car becaue....well becaue Im an idiot! Anyway it is very pricey, but worth it in my opnion because it's a bitch having to take your attention away from the road to simply change tracks, volume, etc. My 2 cents

Unfortunately, I'm one of those people still waiting for the US release of the 6FL retrofit. I don't have a iPhone or iPod, and don't plan on buying another Apple product for as long as I live (long story), but I would love to have the USB port to plug in a flash drive, SSD, or the like. It's already available in the UK, but for some reason, BMWNA is preventing it from coming stateside.
Here's hoping it makes it here sooner rather than later.

I want to get the ipod interface but it's $500 installed at my local dealer. It is very tempting to wait for a possible 6FL retrofit which would really be sweet. I am not a big apple fan either and if i get the ipod interface I would have to get me an ipod as well. I heard of some after market ipod/mp3 adapters but they seem to only work on BMW's made up to 2005. Something to do with the fiber optics they use in the 2006 and on BMW's. I am stuck with a single disc on my 06 330i. I can't even play mp3 cd's. I am going to take it to another dealer to see if they can help me better. My local dealer are clueless on about it.

And my favorite feature of all - it allows you to disconnect your ipod and start playing the radio without touching anything. This feature has a random mode as well. You get the best of both worlds - listen to tracks in random order and listen to the ipod at random.

The best kit that's available on the market today is the one we carry at the moment. It's the mObridge iPod adapter for your car. We have this in stock and ready to ship out immediately!
The mObridge AUDIO iPod interface is not limited to 250 songs or folders like the BMW CD changer or BMW's own iPod kit, but supports the entire iPod contents as well as providing an auxiliary audio input and allowing manual mode control. It is available for vehicles whether or not the vehicle supports MP3 -- in the BMW models that do not support MP3, mObridge will emulate CD tracks. Just take a look at what we have to offer: mObridge - iPod integration kit for e90/91/92/93 3-series http://www.europeanautosource.com/pr...oducts_id=1651 Standard Features - Supports iPod Mini, 4th Gen, 4th Gen Photo, Nano, 2nd Gen Nano, iPod Video, 3rd Gen Nano, iPod Classic, iPod Touch, iPhone - Firmware upgradeable via memory card for future features. - 24 bit ADC stereo for a more complete experience. - 500uA Sleep Current. Lower sleep current draw than OEM specifications. - Configurable for all vehicles via iTune's MP3 tag. - Configurable for First five playlists, numbered playlists or full folder support for iPod browsing. - Paging to gain access to lists greater than the CD limitation of 99 giving full access to the iPod. Also possible on radio's without text support. - Last disc, last folder, last track memory retention for fast startup. - Access to Playlists/Artists/Albums/Genre/All Songs. - Random, Repeat, Scan options. - Auxiliary input for external audio source. - Exit iPod lockout mode for manual control with the ability to continue track up/down from the steering wheel controls. - iPod USB charging. - Bypass switch to remove interface from the MOST ring, allowing "undetectable mode" for dealer visits. - Dedicated Auxiliary override for phone system input. If you have any questions about the kit, please feel free to send over a PM or give us a call! |

I use these 2:
1.) Monster ICarPlay wireless Fm Transmitter for charging purposes. 2.) and a Aux cable so for the audio. You can get it from RadioShack. I know this will not enable you to change the tracks using ur idrive and ur steering wheel controls. But, I find its the most economic way to get around it. It works for me.

I have an aversion to aftermarket solutions like that. Not saying it isn't a quality product - probably is. Years ago though, I had Circuit City install a Viper alarm in my car and then went on to have electrical problems for years after that. From that point on, I never allowed anybody to add electrical accessories to my car.

I have one of these: http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/autopilot
Having a power port next to the aux port in the center console makes for a nice setup. I just have the one wire coming out of the center console that I plug into my iPhone 3G. Sure I don't get to control it from the steering wheel, but it was only like $40 at the Apple store and a lot of the time I'm using Tuner on the phone to listen to internet radio anyways. I like this setup better than directly hooking it up to the aux port because a) line level is centered automatically b) charges the phone

i just want to stick my USB flash drive to some connector and be able to play it through using the radio controls (non-idrive). because i got my car in 2006, there was no option for the 6fl thing. i've been burning mp3 cd's for quite a while but it seems like its not enough anymore. since USB flash storage is getting larger and larger, i think it will be enough. i saw on the other thread members are using the HD but probably too much for me and not convenient i want the usb connector have also tried using the AUX jack for my ipod but didn't like the cable and the fact that i have to control through the ipod.
