Some days ago, BMW has officially announced the M Performance Parts lineup for the F30 3 series (and the F10 and the F20). Today, we're happy to share more information on the M Performance Brakes. Thanks to E90Fleet for this information!

The M Performance brakes are manufactured by Brembo, and calipers are available in three colors: Yellow, Orange, and Red. Front calipers are fixed 4-piston units while rear calipers are fixed 2-piston units. The rotors are drilled and slotted and measure 370x30 mm at the front and 345x25 mm at the rear. Thus it comes as no surprise that minimum wheel size required will be 18 inches. The M Performance Brakes are said to be available from July 2012 on as dealer installed parts.

By comparison, the factory option M Sport Brakes use the same brake calipers but are painted in blue. Contrary to the M Performance brakes, the M Sport brakes may not come with drilled and slotted rotors. BMW offers these rotors however as retrofit. The M Sport Brakes are available as of July 2012 production.

Stay tuned for a lot more information on the M Performance parts when we report live from the Geneva Motor Show next week.

For some reason I don't like the new performance brakes. They should have kept it 6 piston in the front like my 135. It just looks a lot nicer and it has that extra piston.

I paid a large amount for my 2011 E90 M3 and it came with horrible looking brakes. Is there any way to get these for my car? Or will they only fit the F series models? I don't want to switch out the brake discs I just want better looking calipers instead of paying over 8k for brembos. Even if I could get brembos I'm hesitant because even hyundai's come with them now a days. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Glad they added this option, adds a bit of flare to a personal car.

Will these brakes be available for the M3? It would be ironic if the non-M3 cars can get them but not the M3s.

Thanks for the info south.

I wonder why they don't offer them in the MSport blue as well. It seems ilke you could still obtain the MSport ones from the parts counter if you really want to, no?

F80 M3 will have its own unique brakes, likely even bigger than these. I don't think these are designed to fit on the E9x M3 (or any E9x for that matter).

Brakes look great, a nice upgrade. I wish it would be standard in BMW M blue

Anyone else a bit sick of these brushed face, black barrel wheel finishes? Not a good look to me :/

Drive any car with brembos and you wont' be dissapointed in the stopping power. I remember driving my friend's 04' Acura TL 6-speed. The bite is brutal.

The M Performance retrofit kits will not have blue calipers available, only the 3 colors listed.

Do you know if we only have to buy the Brake calipers and reuse our rotors? Also, will the calipers be 6 piston or 4 piston?

From southlight's description, it sounds like the M Sport and M Performance calipers are exactly the same, save for the color. So for anyone willing to do a retrofit, it looks like there will be four color options available -- bravo to BMW for making such bold colors available from the factory. Only Ferrari (maybe Lamborghini and not even Porsche) offer as many colorful choices.

Right, that's sort of my point, Fleet. Presumably, the MSport brake calipers are still available as spare parts from BMW at your dealership parts counter, just like virtually any other BMW part, right? Assuming that is true, the decision not to offer them in blue though the same Performance parts channel as the red/orange/yellow ones seems a bit arbitrary to me.

Given how prolific the the m3post community is, I'm sure some E9XM owner will try to retrofit these calipers and the M Sport and/or M Performance rotors onto their car as soon as they're available in July.

Spyshots so far suggest that the F80 M3 is using 4 piston calipers: http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=654999

Following the M5's and M6's lead, there'll likely also be a carbon ceramic option for the M3.

Best regards,
