Gee, maybe it's the fuel pumps, or the shitty paint, or the soft windshields, or the rattles and the seats that squeaks like whore's beds... maybe..

BMW has to step it's quality up, hopefully they won't become mid 90's Mercedes.

It's the mid-90's where they went down the crapper right?

Aside from the fuel pump issues, sounds like some of you are having lots of problems. Aside from the occasional iDrive hiccup, I haven't had any major issues. My windshield was hit with a humongous object (a rock dropped from a high overpass) at 70 mph, and it saved my passenger from getting killed. So no complaints from me about the soft windshield.

Interesting.

Psshhh.
I will not spend my money on another until they get their act together.

Now if someone wanted to give me a white/red M3 sedan I might get over it.

It's no surprise that those who paid the most for their cars would rate them the highest when surveyed. No one wants to admit that their $50K car is a POS, not even to themselves. Stick with objective reviews, people.

Well if dun need to worry about the tear off subframe from my E92 like my old E46 then I consider BMW already improved their quality. I already dun care about if I need to keep replacing control arm, windows regulator, shifter spring, sunroof clips, vanos, O2 sensor, water pump, fuel pump, ...etc.

I don' think they are saying BMW quality is down, they are saying that the overall average of all automakers is down.

Yknow, I have to say, BMW's have thousands of moving parts that are used for tens of thousands of miles, are relatively safe in high speed collision, have amazing performance, and even look awesome. So the things that come up that go wrong, an oil filter here, a fuel pump there. I mean, it's so minor. Wouldn't you agree that when you push the envelope a bit, things may not be 100% perfect? But I'd say based on these forums we're pretty close to 99% perfect. That's more than fine in my book.

At the end of the day, 99% or 100%, the fact that BMW balances any engineering issues with a killer warranty puts these issues to rest for me. I love the brand, and love the quality.

Wow, your guys' comments are causing me pause. I'm a prospective BMW owner, with plans of buying an E90 within the next year.

You're kinda scaring me...

Don't be, some people are just bitter because their car has minor problems which I can understand especially when your paying 700-900 a month for it. Anyways I love my bimmer, it gets attention everywhere I go (not that I care) its more unique then most cars out there, its sleek and sounds great, and of course the drive of this car is amazing and I fall in love with it everytime I get in and start it up (gotta love the push button to start the engine )

The best new car I have owned - 8 months and zero problems. Just one burnt out stop light bulb which would be ridiculous to consider "a BMW quality issue".

"To get the rankings, Strategic Vision calculated the index based on survey questions about reliability, vehicle characteristics, dealership experience, styling, interior and exterior design and their overall perception of initial quality..."

Toyota is #5 in quality....right!

(BTW, I have had 0 problems that I have not caused myself.)

FTA: BMW led all brands in the results released Wednesday by San Diego-based Strategic Vision Inc., followed closely by Hummer, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Infiniti, Lexus, Land Rover, Cadillac, Lincoln and Volkswagen.

So after BMW comes Hummer, Merc, and Audi? Not exactly a ranking of the most reliable cars.

A fuel pump failing isn ot a minor issue - it can potentially get you killed leaving you stranded in the middle of the road. And yeah the warranty is great but I didn't buy a 45K car to keep it parked at the dealer for days while it is being serviced...

BMWs are great cars but that does not excuse poor reliability

E90 owner since late 2005, and not a single issue which required service.

+1 to ians comments above, had just about every one of those on the E46.

However, I would not give much consideration to this type of survey, considering how it was performed and the criteria evaluated.

Each of the people answering the survey had to have owned their vehicles for two to three months so they could adequately judge them

I have no complaints about the performance of the car but call me wacky when I pay $50K+ for a car, I expect the bulbs to last a little longer than a year.

If you bought a house for $500K would you consider it a non-issue if you have to call the plumber or electrician several times a year?

My e90 is my first bimmer ever and in terms of reliability the engine's rock solid, electrical wise, it's seriously questionable how they wire these cars up cause it's a nightmare. I can do without all the sensor tripping themselves.
To be fair, mechancially the car is sound, electrically it is a mess, I'm 50/50 about the whole matter, it's like anything in life there are compromises, you lower a car the ride gets rougher. BMW's are driver's cars, so some sacrifices may have been made in quality.
