He's clearly trying to find someone on here that will sell it to him for less than he can get it at an online broker

Hi guys, newbie here, I love keeping up with this thread and enjoy reading about everyone's collection and latest additions. I only own some hand me downs, but this thread (dammit) has me interested in embarking on my own ownership journey.

So, with that thought in mind, could the collective wisdom here give me some advice/recommendations on a good 1911 with which to begin? I'm interested in using it at the range, and improving my personal handling capabilities. I'm not really sure what other questions I need to answer, so shoot them at me (pun intended) and help me out! Thanks!

Been looking at the 1911 myself and everything I've read points me to the Colt 1911 Gold Cup.

Depends on price range. For sub $1000 I would say sig sauer, for sub $800 I would say ruger. Above $1300 there starts to be more options that are available.

What's the deal with the 10 day waiting period? Is it only for guns bought new from a dealer? What about private sales?

Curious, but recommendations on safes? Was looking at Champion and Liberty but seeking something shorter since I do not own any sticks.

I got a Winchester safe from Costco a couple of years ago. It was reasonably priced and appears to be well made. The one thing I don't like is the electronic lock, I would prefer an old school mechanical lock that is less prone to failure.

The main problem with owning a safe is the compulsion to fill it.

My problem is that i have the perfect spot for a nice safe but my wife has it filled with shoes. The second best spot for the safe is a slightly odd size and i would have to spend about $800 more than the safe that fits perfectly in the other space due to the odd size. Puts the total delivered price tag at around $2000..... which as we know buys lots of ammo or a few nice firearms.

Just need to do it though. I don't like having a small arsenal in my bedroom with plenty of ammo to boot. We don't have kids and my wife is smart about it but need to get them secure. She came home and their was a strange pick up truck parked in our drive way. She didn't know who's it was and didn't see our dog through the glass front door. So she called the sheriff to have them run the plates (cause the truck looks stolen) and they sent an officer to clear the house since my wife alerted them to the plethora of weapons and ammo we have. ......I guess i should have told her that my friend was going to park his truck at our house that day and ride with me. Oopps. We got home just before they towed it. Cops were totally cool about it. She kept apologizing for wasting their time and they kept telling her no problem and not to hesitate if the same thing happens in the future.

I just need a place to secure them, don't even need the safe aspect of it. Don't need 30min fire proofing, they are all insured. I just want a secure place to keep the weapons and the ammo. I suppose the fire proofing would be good for the ammo, but i do keep them in air tight ammo cans, would likely add a little bit of time in a fire... It seems that heavy gauge security cabinets are just as rare as cheap safes.

My Costco safe was under $600 it claims to be a 24 gun I think, I just put it in the garage (because its f-in heavy) and bolted it to the floor. I got it shortly after we brought a kid home.

An OTT option might be a Graffunder.

Is it just me or does that vault have external hinges? I was under the impression that those were almost always a bad thing.

I am thinking about getting a Mesa safe myself. Affordable, heavy, great fire rating and safety on paper.

many have external hinges, they also have locking lugs on both sides of the door, even if you cut the hinges the door is not going to open
