Question Difference Between 5w30 & 0w40 Engine Oils?

i noticed that amsoil has motor oil approved of hto-06 for my mom's acura rdx . the thing is it is 0w30 as supposed to the mobil1 5w30 i am using when doing oil change (also in the manual). what is the difference between 0 and the 5? also the 30 represents weight right?

can anyone describe what each thing means? all i know is the w stands for winter...
