If I could rewind time two years back, then yeah, I'd be planning on attending an automotive design school. Right now I'll have to wait to knock out my pre-reqs and then see what happens from there.

It's either mechanical engineering or automotive design for me.

It's a risky profession, and part of the reason why I'm hesitant to go to a design school. There's a high failure rate in the field of auto design, and more likely than not, I'd be designing for some manufacturer that I don't want to work for.

My dream career would be an automotive designer for BMW. Fat chance.

graduating from interior design in december
make sure to pick a discipline that you will absolutely love and one that is somewhat stable.
starting wages are actually quite low ($10-25/hour) and it can be hard to find jobs for things like graphic design, fashion design, automotive design, etc.
also, dropout rate (out of a starting class of 25 people, there are about 6 left) and tuition can be quite high in art/design schools so make sure to research what you are planning to take
overall, awesome experience, having a lot of fun and was definitely worth it

I went to a University over an Art school so that it'd be easier for me to go back and get a teaching degree if I wanted one down the road. I had a double major in Graphic Design, and Sculpting. Graphic design was cool in theory, but in the real world it was not creative and sucked... and Sculpting, still waiting to see how that goes.

I have some friends who went to Art school and are doing REALLY well in 3D design/animation. If I had it all to do over, I'd do 3D animation and sculpting at an Art school.

I was a very creative person when I was in elementary school and early years of high school. In my senior year, everything fell apart and I lost interest in art and design. I always wanted to attend Art/Design school but it's definately not for the money. I know that majority of the grads will not find jobs within the profession but I think it will be fun and interesting. I will only consider it if I quit of job or something because I am employed full time. BTW, the Art/Design school is actually a University.
