Thumbs up Z4 Causes 4 not charging & starting

For your info. If you only hear a click when turning the key or jump start is only possible from the front. If your steering remote does not work then the most posible cause will be the following.

At the back of the battery there is a small black box with a heavy duty wire in it. The wire terminal normally shoots off with a bang when your airbag was set of. This is a safety feature to cut of the main supply to the engine. It can be fixed by taking the black casing apart and by putting it in a vice and compress the metal sleeving back again. This wire also effect other electrical parts and is worth checking it out before stripping unneccesary components.

Thanks for the tip. Just bought a salvage 2007 Z4 that had air bags go off. Could only start it by jumping off the front (engine compartment) posts. The problem you described is exactly my situation. It looks like there is a small actuator that separates the positive battery cable. I just took mine apart to comfirm, and sure enough, this was the problem.

Thanks for your post. you saved me potential hours of wasted time looking for the problem.

Cable

I ended up buying one from the "stealership". Even though you can put the cable back together, it has to be replaced. It is a one time use device (like an airbag).

I have an 07 z4. I bought part number 61136973215.

You can look up part numbers at www.realoem.com.

Thanks!

But I do not have a fuse box near the battery... looks like I'll have to buy the whole cable 61126935667 which is about $350.

As soon as the snow goes down will make a visit to the dealer in order to pick up the right part.
