Exclamation Wal-Mart Electric Car

I was at a tier 1 auto supplier yesterday that manufactures front end components for GM and Chrysler. They are currently bidding on a "secret" project to supply axles for a car that’s supposed to be sold in WALMART!!

He was very secretive about it and wouldn't even say who the end user was going to be. This company is owned by Magna International, which happens to be current manufacturer of X3. My guess is that Magna might build the car for Wal-Mart.

Even in these challenging times Wal-Mart is somehow pursing this project.

Personally I don’t shop at Wal-Mart just because they import 99.99% (somewhat exaggerating) of their products from overseas.

Do you guys think that there is a sustainable market for Wal-Mart to tap into?? I mean this is a FREAKING car we're talking about, not an LCD TV.

I can see Wal-Mart selling cars. I wouldn't be surprised if Wal-Mart buying if BMW is on the verge of bankruptcy if something would happen.

Wal-Mart used to sell products for trailer park crowd in the very early days... look at what they're selling now at their stores...

Nothing is impossible. I used to listen to music on my computer in the 80's and early 90's. I communicated with people online in the 80's and the early 90's too. People thought I was crazy. Hmmmm... everyone's doing it now.

Well there is at least of one reported case of a plant in Milton thats bidding on parts. This means the car is actually designed and ready for production, this also somewhat good news for the local economy, since the parts are being sourced from Ontario, that means the vehicle would actually be assembled in NA!! yaaaaaay

The word on the interweb is that its either going to be a walmart made version of the smart car, or somewhat like a smart car. It will be a little commuter car none the less.

btw, I believe the smart car is only licensed to MB, if I am not mistaken...

Walmart sells everything else so why not. To ensure that its a hit all they need to do is include a gun rack and a lift kit so that most of their loyal customer base will be satisfied.

Trailer park stuff and electronics?

I avoid wal-mart like a homophobe avoids the showers.

I hate the setting, I hate the service, I hate the attitude.

And I don't like getting all dressed up...

This is why i refuse to shop @ walmart. IMHO I think its dangerous to have big conglomerates taking over everything. Think about it, if this pace keeps up, were going to end up with 50-100 large companies that will essentially run everything in this world.

I am just a little scared that companies like walmart can dip their hands into everything they can get their hands on. If one large company ends up owning a big part of a market, then that market will be dominated by one mentality.

Its hard to stop the ball once it starts rolling on something like this. White trash love to shop their because its convenient that everything is under one roof and everything in the store is essentially on sale all the time compared to other stores since they chop their vendor's balls off when it comes to pricing, which you can do when you have such vast buying power, and the cycle continues. Yeah, its definitely not a good trend though.

Wal-Mart used to have a big huge sign that read "You're the BOSS!" in the customer service area. They don't have that sign anymore and yep, the service went downhill.

The service and the "I really couldn't care less" attitude is what I can't stand. Oh, don't forget how strange everyone there is.

Are you sure WalMart isn't building a bunch of electric carts for their "typical" clientele? Gotta satisfy all the lazy people, yeah?

If they do sell a car, it will be powered by leaded gas or something

TBH I wouldn't be surprised. Considering Walmart is #1 in the fortune 500, and they basically sell most of everything in their stores, they've got the money to give it a shot. I also wouldn't be surprised if their car is garbage lol.

I think Harbor Freight should start selling cars... they always have the best quality tools so I'm sure their electric cars would be just as good.

Guys, You know Sears use to sell Model T back in the day, you could order them through the mail and they would show up at your house some months later.
