My new in car camera mount

This is what you get, when you marry a Mini Cardelli Clamp used in pro photography with a Manfrotto 484 ball head.

The clamping surface is rubberized, and fits just as easily on a door frame, as it does on the headrest post, and locks down incredibly tightly.

So something has to be made in Italy to be svelte? I would appreciate something you made w/ your own hands much more...

Don't make me post my wooden handmade one. Your eyes will bleed. Trust me, this is one of the nicest quick fit camera mounts I've ever seen, never mind owned.

I prefer my newer example of ingenuity. That mount rocks!

Btw, I used the ghettomount(tm) for a couple seasons, and already got my money's worth out of it.

Brilliant! I've been looking for an alternative to the suction cap camera mounts for a while now.. thanks for the tip!

Check these things out, starting at $25:

I'm looking for something I can hide easily at the nurburging, thinking of putting my camera on the rear shelf under a hat or something with velcro.

John, I think those twisty mounts would not be too stable in a car, and you'll get some movement.

This is it in my car:

Yeah it looks like they are plastic more than rubber. I'm worried the mount you made looks too obviously like a camera mount, especially since I won't be tinting my windows until I return to the states. Hand held video on the ring looks horrible.

I might stick to velcro, but I'm disappointed as I planned to post 720p high def footage of my experience and I don't think the velcro will be steady. I've heard that the ring marshals sometimes don't care and other times ban you from the track for the rest of the day.

Can you see that mount from the rear? i.e. if a car was behind you on the road would it be obvious?

This is what I use. It's the GoPro Camera specifically designed for in-car applications. My girl picked it up for our anniversary, I can't wait to get some track footage with it. Takes great video! And the best part is that entire mount snaps out, only leaving a small clip stuck to the rear interior light housing, you would never notice it's there when the camera is not in the car.

The only thing I'm concerned about now is passing tech. It's fairly secure, but I'm guessing they will want to see some type of safety tether. Anyone have an idea where I might purchase something like that? Otherwise I'm going to have to make something myself out of nylon (or maybe a small dog leash would do the trick).
