In terms of Phelps, I never thought I would be watching swimming at 11 at night and cheering/borderline screaming at my TV.

Never heard of these athletes before the olympics and don't care about them now.

Don't get me wrong, I am not slighting anyone who achieves this much with their lives, they have done more than I ever will.

But the only reason 99% of any of you know any of these names is because of NBC's marketing.

Here is a test...who were the gold medalists of synchronized diving two olympics cycles ago...and no fair looking at wikipedia or other websites, from memory who was it?

Exactly...

Usain Bolt is hugely talented, like none other, unfortunately, he is also a first-class showboat. An unattractive behavior at best. As a young man, I competed in the same events he now dominates, then as now, and, as will always be, in the sport of track and field, showboating is not how you earn respect. Run your race, excel, keep yer' precious arrogance to yourself. I know, I know, he is all of 22 years young, I have every reason to believe his coaches have told him to knock it off with the celebrations, he's been told, he knows better. Time may temper his ways. I certainly hope so as he has the potential to reignite international excitement and appreciation for the sport of track and field.

Having said all that, criticized the lad, Bolt gets my vote as he has rewritten the record books and could be the first, possibly only, person to hold the world record in all three sprints. That would be truly incredible.

I don't think that's the point of this thread..........It's to express an opinion on who you like in this years event.
If you don't like or don't care about the Olympics then why post?

The Chinese athletes underaged, even for Asians who seem to age slower they just seem like they are 11-13 not 15-16

Quote:
The Chinese Women's Gymnastics Team took the Olympic Gold Medal in the team competition, but has been disqualified due to the falsification of the ages of some of the team members. News sources had reported several days ago that at least three members of the team had falsified paperwork to appear to be older.

Athletes must turn 16 within the Olympic year to be eligible for the sport. Two gymnasts were found to be thirteen, while another is fourteen. The other three members of the team are still being investigated.

Officials begin to be suspicious when the girls pulled out their teddy bears during a competitive break and begin holding a tea party. They were also curious when one girl had to ask for instructions on hooking her bra and another ask for help wiping herself after using the bathroom (her phrase, loosely translated, was "making poopies"). Another strange moment came when one team reported that, in the locker room, the Chinese gymnasts all had cartoon characters on their panties. Further suspicions were aroused when the athletes asked the American team if "the Jonas Brothers" had cooties.

The final straw, however, was when one of the gymnasts lost two baby teeth and asked if the tooth fairy could still find her in the Olympic Village.

Upon making the announcement, all officials from the International Olympic Committee suddenly disappeared (Chinese officials refuse to comment). If they are not seen soon, no one will be able to take the medals from the girls and present them to the Americans (who won the team silver).
