Gosh Darn Scammers

I received a strange call today from: 1 253 473 3386

It said it was the 2nd follow up call in regards to my new vehicles warranty which would be expiring if I didn't speak to a representative right away. Press 2 to be removed from this list, and 1 to speak with a representative.

I pressed 1, and was immediately speaking to someone with a thick Indian accent. He told me he needed the year of my car. I asked what this was in regards to. He said, "This is for the warranty on your car which will expire, what is the year of your car?"

Then I asked (a bit perplexed), "What is this in regards to?"

He responded, "What is the year of your car?"

I bluffed, "Which car is this in regards to, because I just purchased 3 new cars."

He hung up.

Watch out for scams, I'm sure they would've asked me for credit card info, or something else had I stayed on the phone much longer.

Looking the phone number up on google, reveals it to be a residential number listed to: Lak***ha We***s. The stars were posted by me to protect this individual, but you can google it yourself if you want the info.

The first google hit, under 800notes.com reveals it to be a phising scam.

Forward it on to your state's attorney general office.

What would that do? Would it be more trouble than it's worth?

No, all you have to do is report the crime and then they take over the rest...

I usually play the game and tell them I have a 1976 AMC Pacer just to see what the extended warranty price would be and what it covers. I have yet to get an answer.

No, do not report it to your State AG. They are busy enough, you will just be wasting their time.

Use of phone lines makes it Federal.

Go to WWW.FTC.GOV scroll over "Consumer Protection" and click "File a Complaint."

I got the same call yesterday! It was from this number 505-327-2741. I just hung up because I knew it was BS, but still how the hell are people getting our private cell phone #'s? Not only that but how are they getting away with it?

You guys need to go to www.donotcall.gov and register your phone numbers. It takes you name and phone numbers off the calling lists. I did so a few years back and never get those phone calls.

Scammers don't care about the federal donotcall registry. We're on it, got the calls anyways.

And you can't trust the phone number to be the actual number they are calling from. Using any basic PBX calling system, it is easy to fake the number that appears on your caller-id.

The FTC can't stop people from being scammed.

I think they use the do not call list as an input into their auto dialer.
