Lift cup DIY?

Ok, so this is a weird one.

While working on my M a few weeks back, a jack stand bit through one of the plastic lift point cups. I picked up a new one from the dealer for pretty cheap (for a BMW part), but looking at it, I have no idea how to actually put it in.

The problem is that it's held in by a couple of tabs that are quite a ways in, and I can't think of a single tool that would fit in there with enough leverage to push in the existing one.

Anyone replaced these before? Any suggestions on how to do it?

I just used a small flat blade screw driver. Do one end then the other. I then put some weight on it with the floor jack to be sure it is fully seated.

I use this to avoid damage to the jack pad

I think he's saying you pry it out with a screwdriver. Then seat the new one with weight applied.

Yes, use a small screw driver to push the the locking tabs free (one at each end) in order to remove the jack pad. Sorry, I wasn't very clear on that.

No joy, and to be honest, I have no clue how you did it. Was this on an E9X? I assume it was, but on my E90, all four cup mount-points are 'countersunk' beneath the undercarriage protector (the felt-covered thing), and right next to the under-door body panel. There's absolutely no way to get a screwdriver at better than a 45-degree angle into where the cup meets the mount point because of this. The gap to the side is too small to even fit a right-angle tool (I was going to maybe try to use a right-angle trim tool) with any leverage.

In short, I can't see how it can be done without removing the undercarriage piece (which I'm not even sure is possibly, it looks riveted on).

Yeah... I had the same problem on my e90. The felt undercover prevents any use of a screwdriver to push the tab in. I'm sure there is a way to remove that felt lining but I just haven't had a chance to look at it yet. I guess I could drive the M3 up my rhino ramp and see how to do it.

I posted a while back that I jacked the hell out of my jack points. I bought 4 new ones and replaced the old ones.

I put the car on ramps and drilled out the old ones. since i did not take any photos of the process, here is what i can tell you. Order the replacement pads. After you get the new ones you will see that with the right sized drill bit you can drill in on an angle and drill out the retaining clips. I drilled out the clips and hit at the old pad with a hammer to get it off. I know it all sounds very brute force-ish, but its really the only way. I may still have the old pads that I drilled out. Let me look. If I still have them I will post photos of the drill holes. Oh by the way the pads mound right into the steel frame, and if you use the right size bit you will not even hit the steel surrounding.

how much did you guys pay for all 4 pads?
My buddy with E92 335i got all 4 for 48 after tax and I paid 60+ tax for my E90M3 from same dealer.
I'm wondering if I got ripped off or not.
