LED Tvs: Samsung or Sony?

So I have pretty much narrowed my research down to the Sony Bravia 46" 46EX700 and the Samsung 46" 6500. Anyone have either of these or have any recommendations?

That's what I was leaning towards. Crutchfield actually has it for $1499. I have heard that best buy changes the model numbers and lowers the price because they strip out features. Anyone know anything about this?

I'm a big fan of Samsung's TVs...
their designs are just nice, and they aren't overpriced IMHO.. I bought Samsung when I was looking into TVs everytime, by pure coincidence. (I am not a brand whore)

I'm no technical expert though..

I have two Samsung DLP TV's (one bulb and one LED) and I'm really happy with the picture quality. I still like them after my first DLP failed just over a year in and Samsung replaced it.
I'm sure the Sony is no slouch either but Samsung makes good stuff.
Usually if they sell a cheaper version of the same TV they just remove stuff like extra HDMI ports. The actual display shouldn't change.

i just wouldnt buy an edge lit led in general. but if i had to choose, samsung...

sony makes theres where it's not flat all the way through (this was in earlier models, unsure of current). what i mean is it got thicker as you went from top to bottom of the tv vs samsung's uniform thickness

Seems like the general consensus in Samsung. Thanks for all the responses.

Another vote for Samsung. I have always had great experiences with Samsungs and my dad has a Sony, and aside from paying more for it, I don't see the difference in picture quality.

3D plasma all the way. Same clarity and picture quality of a LED HDTV except it has the future capabilities of 3D.

A couple years ago it was actually the other way around (aka, Samsung made Sony's flat panel TVs in the Samsung factory), but I'm not sure if that is still the case anymore.

I have a Samsung and I love it. But, you won't go wrong with either brand.

Wrong.

Early adopter FTL.

Buying a 3D TV right now just for TV is dumb. How many 3D glasses are you going to buy? What are you going to do when they release 3D technology w/o glasses in a few years?

Do you realize how much 3D movies cost?

Yea, I'm definitely not into the 3D. Especially since the technology is so new, I don't think it's worth it. I'm going to check out the Bravia vs. Samsung picture quality tonight just to make sure.

Sony is ahead of Samsung in terms of the higher end stuff (RDG v white LEDs)

My vote: Sony XBR8 if you can find them

I'm looking more for $1500 and under. I just started a new job and moved so I can't swing a $3k plus tv right now.

I worked on a project for Samsung a few years back... According the the person I talked to over there they made LOTS of OEM screens for several big name manufacturers

Somthing WAY over 50% of the screens at that time were coming from Samsung's factories. Not saying the specs were/are the same, but they rolling across the same assembly lines.

It's why their products are so much cheaper... They aren't paying middle men like everyone else since they are the middle men.

Of course now, in the present I'm sure lots of the companies they were doing OEM work for have now invested in their own factories.
