Forget the 1M...did anyone see the Apple event?

I am Apple fan boy so I had to watch today since it was streamed over the Web. The new iPods are amazing. I'm happy that the iPad gets the IOS 4.x upgrade. Wireless printing will be cool. But, to me, the new Apple TV is a no-brainer. Being an owner of the original and being alittle underwhelmed, the new Apple TV for $99.00 is great. The fact that I can stream movies from MacBook Pro and iPad to my HDTV is going to be cool. I mostly download shows and movies and watch them on a those devices and now being able to stream them to my TV is awesome. Anybody else watch the live conference?

No MPEG2 and 720p limits sort of make it a lame duck, at least once (and if) the Boxee ever arrives.

Any momentum Apple had with lala.com appears to be dead, the new Ping looks about as useful as Google Buzz 2.0.

I do hope that the new iOS will truly address the proximity sensor issues on my iPhone4, so far it's been really annoying.

Overall, a pretty meh event from Apple with nothing of interest to me. I was hoping for a camera update on the iPad, which would make it a useful present for my parents to allow FaceTime. Oh well.

The only thing announced for the iPad is that it will be getting iOS 4.2, which includes multitasking, folders, Game Center, HDR photos, wireless printing, and AirPlay, which is just fancy talk for streaming content from the iPad to the Apple TV or other wireless devices. This update won't be available until November. There were no hardware changes for the ipad.

I'd guess that no at Apple even remembers that there was ever going to be a white iPhone.

Sweet, I just got an iPad a few weeks ago for my birthday. I'm still trying to figure everything out

I'm really glad you brought this up. Lala.com was the greatest site I've ever come across for music. Not only could you stream a full-length song one time, but the songs were encoded in high bit-rate mp3 formatting. After apple bought them out, I thought that technology would come to iTunes. (sidenote: anyone know a good lala replacement? I've been using grooveshark, but the interface is weird and sometimes the full cd isn't available).

I was really hoping they would update the Classic. I just want a high capacity, no frills music player.

Cool, it's more the trying to Facetime my 94 year old grandmother, and then hanging up on her.

I'm hoping the update will help my 3G (currently running iOS4.0) with the crazy call-drop rate that I acquired after the software update.

Since my iPhone is my "work phone" this is pretty much my day (minus the GF being held for ransom part)

I brought my 3G to the genius bar at Apple because it started to have massive failures after upgrading to 4.0 (i.e. phone completely shutting off mid call, horrible battery life. They looked it over, plugged it into their laptop and decided to replace it. The guy goes in the back to get me a new unit and comes out and says "Today is your lucky day. We're all out of 3G's and they are on a 3 week back order, so you get a free upgrade to a 3GS." Now I have zero issues, and all the new features in OS4. So if your phone is giving you a bunch of problems bring it to Apple (if you have the Applecare warranty) and see if they'll bump you up to a 3GS as well.

Thread title confuses me.

I don't see how the 1M and Apple products are in any way in competition...

Only thing cool in the whole event was the new nano, and only because its so small with a touch screen. Nothing else was really that impressive. Just normal tech increases to keep up with the market.

i really like the new nanos, apple tv is cool too. AirTunes will def be useful in my house. I wonder how the streaming off the computer will be, would be movies have to be part of the iTunes lib? I hope not, I have over 1TB of movies and TV shows and my iTunes lib is on another HDD that cant hold all my music & movies, so that would suck. Hopefully you can stream off any drive any where

cant believe you guys thought there would be updates to the iPad, the thing only recently became easily available after them selling them as fast as they could stock them. They are still banking on this design, they have no need to update it. Prob march of 2011 an updated model will come out

I like the new changes and fixes for 4.1 and the tease from 4.2 looks promising. I was kinda blah on the iTouch since I have zero use for something like that, but glad there are more facetime options, hopefully, they will integrate it w/ iChat soon

I ended up getting the new Apple TV. I not real happy to see that they kept the same interface. I was hoping that they would have put IOS 4 on there. I think they missed it on that since Google will probably go with Android. Hopefully, that will change. But, having the ability to stream from my iPad was a no-brainer for me. I routinely watch shows and movies on my iPad so being able to stream to my TV without having to burning it to a DVD was worth it.

I think the new iPods are cool, but I won't be getting one. I have the 1st gen iTouch which is fine and a 3GS.

The new Apple TV is pure shit, just like the old one was and still is.

720p max output? I stopped watching 720p last year.

Netflix and iTunes only for movie rentals and purchases? Fuck that... I have a WD TV LIVE hooked up to my 65" Plasma that streams Blu-Ray movies in 1080p (25gb files) all day long, I can watch YouTube if I chose, and play a myriad of file formats (what does this pos hockey puck support? H.264 in MP4 containers only?

Apple's proprietary model is meant for the fanboy and mainly idiot consumer who buys the sizzle, not the steak. I find it disappointing that they've truly lost their touch. Well, they're doing one thing right and that's constantly refreshing products with minor changes and every other idiot in town is lining up at the Apple store to buy them.

Someone told me a few days ago "have you seen the iPhone 4 screen?" So? Are you buying a screen or what's behind it? Sure it looks great, has some nice apps but it fails in the e-mail department when you have to type 50+ e-mails a day. The iPhone is "cool" and that's all it's meant to be. More power to you iPhone users.

Apple make great consumer products. But they're slowly but surely losing their touch, nothing revolutionary, groundbreaking or innovative is coming out of Cupertino anymore.

I've been using Apple products since the Apple II days. I have a 17" MacBook Pro right now (among 7 other computers) and they do make a solid OS (in OS X). I'm not against them, just a little disappointed that they just keep refreshing the same old shit and the same idiot driving the Prius with the Obama sticker is lining up in line to buy it.

There are tons and tons of GREAT devices out there, Apple fails miserably in the Digital Media Player market and will continue doing so because of their closed-format bullshit. They have a solid phone which will continue to be a great seller, their personal computer sales aren't even 5% of market share compared to mighty Windows and they make the best music device out there in the iPod.

I'm just disappointed that they come out with such junk these days that's so useless, but the fanboys keep buying, Apple's cash reserve keeps growing and they could care less.

I like what Google's doing since they're all over the place, have the passion and resources to make anything and everything and they're going to ultimately win... Why? Because they embrace open source and that's what it's all about...
