iPhone iOS6 Integrates with BMW Office (iDrive Email and Text Message) via Bluetooth! - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum

Good news for iPhone users. iOS6 is finally supporting iDrive Office integration via Bluetooth MAP(Message Access Profile). Bluetooth MAP is the protocol used to retrieve email messages through iDrive, which currently only works with Blackberry and a few other devices.

Couple shots of my wireless non USB connection using my iPhone 4S with iOS6 Beta 1. iOS6 Beta 1 is still a little buggy but this is a great start. I suspect the (Sender Unknown) header will be fixed with the next beta release.

I am also running the latest Connected Drive Bluetooth and USB update from BMW. BMW Update Link

Update 06/25/2012: iOS6 Beta 2 released today. The senders name now displays in the message header. SMS Messages are still flagged as Email and not text messages but are still readable and functional.

Update 09/19/2012: iOS6 GM was released today. Only SMS messages are currently working with the release. Email messages are currently not working.

Do you have BMW Apps? Or is this something we would see regardless of that (as long as you have the most up to date combox version).

No you wouldn't need Apps as the functionality is not under the Apps section of the iDrive.

I have a 2011 M3. Would I just need iOS6 and the updated iDrive software to run this? I'm not quite sure if I have iDrive Office...

You should have Office in your main menu. Software update is most easily done via vehicle settings in iDrive.

So if i have a 2010 M3 with october 2009 build, it wont have it i guess? can it be added by a simple software update?

There's no Combox in your 2010 M3. Search for the Combox retrofit for details.

Does that Play button read aloud each message? That looks just as complicated as picking up my phone and reading the messages while driving.

Yes it plays the message out loud

No, you will only see the "Office" menu item if your paired to a bluetooth phone that supports email & text messages.

i see. i guess ios5 doesnt support it? ill check it our today. if not I guess itll work on ios6

You can be plugged into the USB port but like the address book & contacts it uses Bluetooth to interrogate the phone and display data in iDrive.

Difference being, at least in Europe, is that one is legal and the other isn't. And yes, the play function is for iDrive to read it out to you. Plus you a big bonus with this system is that you get visual notification of a message on iDrive when normally you wouldn't if your iPhone is plugged in.

Office is present on my iDrive regardless to the presence of a compatible phone. Probably another difference between US and UK iDrive. I use office regularly to access all the messages I've sent to my car via google maps, iPhone remote app and the connecteddrive website.

Your right about "Office". I meant to say "Current Office" which would be the first new sub option after clicking "Office".

I just updated my iphone to IOS 6 and my bmw software to the same as the OP. However, still no office option when i configure my iphone. Anything that I might be missing? I am running Iphone 4.

Try the menu item Telephone>Messages
