E90 335i or E46 M3 CSL

Should I keep my E90 335i Coupe or get an E46 CSL? I love the CSL, but, my 335i is sweet, too. The specifications for my 335 are in my signature, and the M3 CSL is a lighten M3 with 17 more HP.

Typical response.

I personally would have hands down picked a slightly used E46 M3 over a 335i if I can afford the maintenance after the (extended) warranty expires. And if the insurance were similar, which it wasn't. M3 is sure $ to insure.

CSL is hardcore, and a performer... 335 is lux

do you want raw? or comfort?

First of all, kudos to you for managing to find one in the US. Are you referring to the competition package M3? Cuz you know they're practically the same thing. We just don't get the CSL is all.

Back to the topic: I say it comes down to two things.

1) As astra has already asked, do you want the raw experience or is AC (and other comfort devices) a mandatory device for you?
2) Do you have another car (commuter/people hauler...doesn't matter)? If you do, and it happens to be more useable from day to day than a CSL then I'd say go CSL hands down.

But that's just me. Good luck choosin'.

Get the CSL/Comp package. They are not easy to find in the US. You can always get your hands on a 335.

Thanks guys. A friend of mine brought his over to America (and it's still right hand drive!). I was asking because I know their are chips like PROcede that make a 335i have 400HP. The M3 CSL is completely stripped down, it doesn't have a radio, it doesn't have very comfortable seats, and their are no ridiculous features like my 335 has (Navigation, Heated Seats, Power Seats, etc.). But, I don't really mind, since it weights 400lbs (~180kg) less than the M3!

The car has very few miles on it and is in perfect condition. If I cut a good deal I might keep my 335i.

Edit /// No, it's a CSL! It's a full 2 seconds faster than an M3 around a track. Fifth Gear Review.

M3 CSL if you plan to track or collect the car. Buy and modify the 335i if you're going to do street driving. I'd gladly sacrifice my Elise for a CSL if the opportunity made itself available, but the 335i is too comfortable to trade for a hardcore machine.

A CSL m3 is not "practically the same thing" as a m3 ZCP (competition package).

Any pictures of this CSL thats in America. If there really is a CSL in US, this is the first i ever heard of it. And im always around m3forum. The only car i know CLOSE to being a true OEM CSL m3 is daytonaviolets, but even that is jsut a e46 m3 with OEM csl parts.

like others have said, the CSL is a track car. I dont know how long the fun factor of the CSL is going to last before that "oh how I miss the comfortable ride my 335 used to offer" factor kick in.

CSL= collector's/track car

335i= daily driver

i think in SD you would need a/c in the car

/end thread

isn't the csl more different than just a m3 comp. package? the comp package is just seats, wheels, brakes, steering wheel right? the csl uses much more lightweight components i thought?

yup. The CSL is pretty much stripped. It's all performance oriented; no luxury at all. Scary...

If it's a true CSL, you're not going to want to drive that thing every day. But I wouldn't want to pass up the opportunity to own that car.

Why not get the CSL, then a daily driver car as well. Depending on your finances, a used E90 or even a mini or something.

Well... in Germany it is no problem to drive a CSL every day. But on US streets I wouldn't want to drive it. With some little mods it's a very impressive track car, but nothing for bad streets.

Most of the CSLs are not completely stripped! They have a cd radio and aircon.
