Kill story (not really a kill but a victory)

I am still in shock over this one as I thought this car would blow my doors off.

I was on my way to the dealer this morning to get a bunch of things done and a new RS4 pulled up to me at a light (it was super early and No One was on the road) forest on both sides and 3 miles of open road.

So we are stopped at the light he gives me the nod the light drops and we go at it hard off the line. I took the jump by about a fender, and all I heard was him power shifting trying to catch me. I maintained my fender lead until we both decided to back off (around 110mph) which was probably just over a quarter mile.

I do not condone street racing but this truly was a closed and relatively safe environment.

I honestly expected to get killed but I was very impressed that my 335i hung in there with him. The guy seemed as if he knew how to drive.

Just thought I would share.

Nice

The RS4 does weigh more than the 335i... off the top of my head...300-400lbs more? 335i = 3500 RS4 = 3900

RS4 = 420 HSP @ 7500RPM, 317 FT-lbs @ 6000
335 = 300 HSP @ 5800RPM, 300 FT-lbs @ 1400-5000

So the BMW weighs less, has more torque available at lowers RPMs, and gets better fuel economy, and costs less. Hmm...i wonder why i ordered a 335?

Noted: the RS4 styling interoir/exteroir is yummilicious

Even though it's a different car, I've found from my friend's 2004 S4 that Audi's really are not as fast as some think. Maybe it's the torque, but the 335i feels worlds faster than the S4...and that car still should be keeping up with it.

I would think with the AWD he should have had the jump on the launch.. makes me think he is not a good driver.. after the launch it should be fairly even IMO..

I would also like to know if your car is chipped..

Hey OP, its been almost an hour since your original post. How many people have to ask if your car is chipped/tuned for you to respond?

These figures for the 335 are very debateable:--- from a TON of reads on the net, I have come to the conclusion that the STOCK 335i should have hp in the range of 330-350 and torue in the range of 330- 360... That should be enough to keep up with a heavier and dynamically challenged RS4...

Since every RS4 is a manual trans car, we can safely assume this guy was not the best at launching his Audi. Not to take anything away from the 335s amazing power delivery, but in a heads up drag race, driver skill equal, the Audi should always win. Think about it....4 wheel drive vs. 1 wheel drive...
Anyways all you have to do is look at the published 0-60 times, the Audi is a few tenths quicker and holds the lead through the quarter mile.
That being said, you should still be proud of the win and the Audi driver should be embarassed.

"Is it chipped?"

I think a more relavent question is what transmission did the BMW have?
If the BMW is auto, this is a perfect example of how "real world" speed contests differ from what we all read about in the car mags.

1 wheel drive? I thought our cars were 2 wheel drive?

STOCK RS4 is capable of running the quarter mile in the high 12s (lowest I have seen yet is 12.88).

I know our cars can't get those #'s, unless the car has PROcede. And even then, it will be hard to reach those #'s. My conclusion is that the guy in the RS4 cannot drive.

Still, good kill!

I was quoting stock OEM information for reference only. I'm sure the OEM listed numbers are -3sigma compared to the nominal. Not every car is the same (a range of tolerances); therefore, they probably display the worst case system to avoid scrutiny from performance enthusiasts (dyno testing)like us

Therefore, you could assume the RS4 has more power also.
