Friend of a friend, to me: "You have dark skin. You must be voting for Obama, right? You guys never vote Republican."

Jesus Tapdancing Christ... seriously? I had to restrain myself from beating this guy senseless, because of his idiocy...

Anyway, figured I'd share that, since I know most (if not all) of the people here are intelligent enough not to assume voting selection that way...

He certainly didn't put it very eloquently, but there is some truth to that. You do realize Obama won 95% of the Black vote in 2008?

Absolutely not. I may be half minority, with dark skin, but my ethnic background does not determine how I vote. I'll be proving that November 6th when I cast my vote for Romney, as I did in 2008 when I voted for McCain.

Good for you then. Unfortunately, you're the exception rather than the rule and your friend was just playing the odds; as was already mentioned, Obama received better than 95% of the black vote (I believe it was more like 97%). You wouldn't believe how many times I was told I was a racist simply because I'm white and don't support Obama. There is stupid everywhere. No point getting your panties in a twist for it.

What's stupid is making an assumption about something you can't possibly know without asking, as the OP's "friend" did. In my opinion it was also stupid to risk offending a "friend" by phrasing what should have been a question as a statement instead, which was racially charged and insensitive at the very least, and down right rude and offensive at worst.

Doesn't sound like much of a friend to me.

Though the amount of black people who voted for Obama was WAY over the standard voting practices for democrats as well as way over what would have been expected based on other voting groups. 1) I dont know why a friend would present something like that to you... rude at the very least. 2) he must not have known you very well to assume something like that about you.
