M4 DCT Convertible - Ordered. Today is 'VERY Good Friday'

Apologies for seemingly gate crashing the forum, I have been an admirer and watcher for sometime.

I have been contemplating an M car for a while and today was the day. After seeing the pics from the NY motorshow, I broke every rule in my book for ordering a new car ie always test drive, see it in that colour etc, and ordered a new M4 convertible.

Won't bore you with the spec (unless you are interested). Colour Combo is MG and Sakhir Leather, I had my heart set on Yas Marina until recently.

Deal was ok but I am sure they will be discounted more if I had waited 12 months. Sometimes you have to live for the moment.

September delivery, next 5 months will be torture.

Sounds fantastic, bit it of a wait though! But should be ready for the new reg in Sept.
At least you'll be one of the first on the road in a M4.

Did you get anything off it? Or did you have to pay list price?

Thanks piono, certainly will post some pics.

Hi Dopper, yeah it is a wait. Apparently no worldwide build slots until August, as you say at least it will be a 65 plate. Got around 5% off, mainly because of returning business. Had to work hard for it though and negotiated it to include service pack which is £1k. Interestingly,
dealer said they had not taken an M3 orders so perhaps saloon unpopular?

Residuals on the M3 will be worse than M4, as E90 M3 residuals are worse than E92 M3's. Plus you buy a saloon for practicality, which an M car isn't!

Ok Teaston (if you insist).
They actually come with reasonable standard spec incl elec heated seats, Pro Nav etc.
My main options were:
Mineral Grey with Sakhir Red Merino Lthr
437m 19" black alloys
M Specific HUD
DCT box
HK sound
LED adaptive lights with HBA
Comfort Access
Surround View and Rear Camera
Ext storage
Convertible Comfort Pack (Air Collar etc)
Active Security Pack
Internet
Speed limit display
Service Pack

(And when I come to trade her in, all those options will be worthless)

that is a dream spec! Would be easier to say what you didn't add, if indeed there was anything!

Fair point. There are rumours that a 2M is coming which will now doubt affect M3/M4 sales. I am glad they resisted putting X-drive on M cars though,
nothing against AWD but not on an M3/4 (why didn't they the M3 badge for all variants!?).

Thanks Teaston. Ceramic Brakes were the big omission. I am
sure they have their benefits but you have to stop somewhere. Maybe I'll invest in a spray can of gold paint to change the colour of the calipers!

Ceramic brakes are definitely not worth it unless you track the car a lot, and have money to burn!!

I love the wide stance of the M3/M4...
Below is a comparison of a M4 and 435i convertibles. How nice does the M4 look....

I did mention the M4 when I was at my dealers and he said September if I was lucky and no discount! Maybe in two years time I'll ask again

With regards getting future discounts on the M3/M4, just looking at the F10 M5 on Broadspeed and its showing about a 16-17% discount. So gives a rough idea of what discount could be expected on an M car after a couple of years or so.
Although they may not get as high discount due to a lower list price than the M5.

I doubt I'll bother, I'm loving the 435i and its fairly cheap to run, no doubt the tax and insurance will be crazy with an M4

Spec looks extremely comprehensive. I think that'll be a great car.

How does the m specific HUD differ from the normal version?

Apparently it has a full colour rev counter and gear selector. I've tried to take a still pic from a YouTube vid but technology defeats me. I've included the video link, HUD appears at around 4 minutes into the film.

Interestingly, not yet convinced about the sound of a turbo M, sounds a bit like a flatulent cow rather than a roaring mammal.

Not sure about insurance yet but got quote for M4 couple which is £550. VED actually not too bad, once you get the first year out of the way! With DCT emissions are 203g, couple and saloon are 194g.
For comparison, the E46 M3 was 294g if my memory is correct. I am sure in every day driving a 435 would be a caged animal. I think a trip to a German autobahn will be in order after Xmas!
