Warranty Question

I was told by a sales associate that if I was to purchase a 435i M Sport and then put on aftermarket wheels and tires, it would void the warranty. Thinking back on it, did he mean it would void the warranty for wheel and suspension related items or would the entire warranty be affected?

I am assuming here you are in the USA?

If so, that would not void the warranty at all. What it does do though is put you in a potentially bad spot if you have wheel and suspension issues the dealer tries to blame on your aftermarket wheels.

I'm in SoCAL like you and the voided warranty thing didn't sound right to me. I think going aftermarket deprives the dealer the opportunity to sell the tire and wheel extended warranty. I can't blame them, though, because the way people grind them on price they have to make it up somewhere.

No, your car warranty is still in full force.
Your new tires and wheels will only have their manufacturers warranty.

Even on new cars the tires are covered under their brands manufacturers warranty. Years ago I experienced tire issues on a new car and Goodyear made good on their warranty.

Your suspension will still be covered even if you put non BMW wheels and tires on it. The only way an actual car part won't be covered due to wheels/tires is if the installer breaks something while putting the new wheels/tires on.
But if that happens, that tire dealer is responsible to fix it.

It's amazing how much stupid crap some sales people tell their customers.

We should do a "Stupid things a sales person told you" thread, then gather up the comments and create a sticky.

A few years ago I had a sales associate tell me that you can't take a leased car out of the state..haha. It's rare for me to meet a SA that actually knows more about the car then I do. But then again, people like us on message boards are in the minority but we sure know our shit.
