C63 to 330D!

My first post, so 'HI' to everyone

Taking delivery hopefully mid May white red leather 330d touring with 19s. Will replace my C63, and cannot wait!! Was glad to see the back of the Merc tbh. Bit concerned about performance and how it will feel (didn't test drive) but from what I'm reading there's plenty of torque on tap and a fairly dynamic chassis. Can't wait!

Sounds nice, but why didn't you test drive it?

Hey

This was the other vehicle I was tempted by when choosing my 335d the BMW one in the end as it's two cars in one and the interior is nicer imo!

Good choice though I think it's brilliant!

You will love it, it drives really well, surprised you did not test drive it.

While I am still waiting for mine, I have had a number of test drives of various lengths (need to get my fix some how lol).

What is your full spec?

Just didn't have time, plus kinda like the excitement!! Drove a 5 series diesel courtesy car and was really taken with power delivery. Hope I like it but it'll be my own fault if I don't

You won't be disappointed, and I must admit to not test driving my 123d before ordering. Ended up being a great little car.

What was the spec, and when can you expect delivery?

But did you go to your 123d from a 500bhp AMG Merc??

Don't get me wrong, I have a 330d and love it and there are quite a few people coming out of M3 to 330/335d's lately.

Straight line speed probably won't disappoint, but that's still going to feel like a massive step down in noise, response, sense of occasion, and sheer grin factor!

Doubling your fuel economy however may make it seem worthwhile though!

10mpg, 6 sets rears in 24k miles, always felt 'harsh' - engine and ride - heavy-ish, black on black boring interior (my fault!), poor stealer service, no load capacity, oh, plus pi$$ed off clients / comments

Surely a 335d would have been more in order, and not that much more expensive when you consider bigger discounts and possibly slightly higher residuals.

Think you will find the 330d a bit boring to be honest and a bit too commonplace a view on the roads. Touring does help of course as they are better looking and much less common.

White also helps as EB is everywhere.

You're mad not to test drive when making such a big change in vehicle, surely there are plenty around to try out.

That's a tad heavy on rears, all worn of some damaged?

Obviously the main thing you will notice is change of horses and 'softer' ride.

I test drove the C63 before ordering mine. The monthly payments would have been less on the C63 but the interior felt dated, low quality and rattled away. Other than the engine it didn't have much going for it but people do buy them just for the engine.

Too common place?
Around here common is black or MG 335's
Oh and 320's pretending to be high power stealthy with over top tints and twin exhausts, in black of course.

Agreed 335 may have been better, however it only comes in X drive and S drive is more of a proper drivers car.

More about not test driving rather than the car I came from. For info it was a modded ~400HP scooby. But not same as the Merc of course.

I must be mad then
I - personally - went for RWD over the 335d. The 330 saves me £100 per month lease. All tyres worn none damaged. Agree c63 is mainly about engine, but to be honest a 500brake kickdown in second to prove something to a 911 driver is too harsh an experience to feel wholly enjoyable - and boring after 6 months... Just my opinion.

From a C63 to a 330d a very interesting change. Why not an M3?
Yes, I would stick with RWD but what about a 335i. Petrol to Petrol it would have been then.
The 330d is a great car anyway.

What didn't you like about the C63 OP?

As others have said, will be a vast change in some aspects like sound, but agree the 3er interior is a step up on (what is now the previous) C-Class.

Had M3 - more of same in my view. Revvy / harsh / one trick car... Not as quick as C63 either... Just really fancy something quick but more refined, torquey, more practical (me and my two boys race mountain bikes, so we can use 330 to lug kit about.
Hoping it's still 'quick enough' and capable of a few thrills!!!

Interesting change.

I'm curious about why you didn't go to 335i though? MUCH better economy over the C63 with in reality very little drop in performance (especially with a quick DMS tune) and still the big (ish) petrol sound and feel.

Hope you are happy with it (it is a good car..I had an E92 330D) but personally I couldn't live with diesel drive.

I fancy the low down torque availability of a Diesel engine. Wouldn't personally tune a new car due to risks associated with warranty and insurance claims. Just fancy DERV power for a change!
If I'm back on moaning in a few weeks time that it feels like a wet lettuce don't worry I won't ask for any sympathy!
