Hopefully this will lead to a proper M340i!

http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/ne...amg-sport-2015

BMW have given the 435/335i the lower powered engined compared to the M235i which has always made me think that an MPerformance version is in the pipeline... hard to believe there isn't if Mercedes bring this car out.

Especially with the dynamics of the 435i being merely ok, when we all suspect there is a truly fantastic handling car in there.

Makes sense to get the M3/M4 launched first though, whilst the new C class and A4 are not yet on sale.

I can see an M2 appearing at some point.

The car looks good so it's already half way there.

M2 for me, would ideally fall under the price of the M3 power above 235, M class chassis etc.

Do you think there would be a market for a M340i? Given the low number of 335i owners on here, I cant see too many M340i's selling.
Going on the M135i M Lite, its not that much different to a non-M Lite other than a more powerful engine and non-run flat tyres.

Can't see it happening myself?

Who would buy a 335i if they released a 340i?

It's probably to put some clear space between it and the 335d, we all know how quick that is...

We have similar taste in cars, I had a sport plus before my f31. Come on BMW i think you would have a few sales on here if you were to make an M2.

I think size wise it is about right, the 1 series is a bit small.

Also price wise it might fall in to the goldilocks area.

That and having watched the video of them on Vegas track, could see it working well for privateers in the states.

Shocking.

It just won't be that same.

You know of course everyone hated Mercedes drivers?

340 would be a bit pointless really IMO - it's too close to the M3/M4 engine wise, without the other bits that make the M cars special. On the road it offers little practical performance advantage in the real world, the M3 is a different beast so can justify it.

The F30 has lost it's edge, as BMW go after a softer market - this makes the M cars even more of a requirement if they are to keep keen drivers loyal to the brand.

BMW will do it if there is a market for it, but I don't think there is. If you want a big power petrol, the BMW buyers would buy the M3/M4 - there has to be a limit on spend for a boggo 3 series.

Also the war on emissions will mean the market has shrunk massively over what it was a decade ago. Those left that do want a proper engined BMW, expect it to be a non run of the mill model so will pay the uplift for the M cars.

At the end of the day, BMW will make it if there is a market and that is only likely to be in the US realistically.

M2 is much more likely to sell as it would be bought by people who are prepared to live with the cost in order to get an enthusiast model that is a proper step away from the boggo models

I think my point is that a possible M340i would be a 335i with a “remap” and run flat tyres as opposed to the M3/M4 which is a whole different animal being far more dynamic and more of a drivers car. I cant see BMW making suspension changes to improve handling on a possible M340i as it could affect M3/M4 sales.

Regarding the 35i engine, I hear BMW are bringing out a new version with significant updates. It will be more frugal and more powerful than in current guise (which is roughly 320bhp real for the 306hp version). This will make the M235i engine a little tame by comparison. Best wait for the LCI 335i and LCI M235i that features the new engine.

Bets on re-naming it 340i????

I think a 340d is more likely, given the current lack of a twin exit exhaust diesel variant
