Service Inclusive Value

Hi

I picked up an ex-demo 320D yesterday and got the service inclusive pack for £425 as I thought that as it had not yet been serviced it was worthwhile.

Whilst on my way home I noticed that the car had been serviced less than 10 miles ago (since my test drive) - I spoke to the dealer and he was as shocked as I was as it wasn't showing on his sales system either.

What I'm trying to figure out is... is the service inclusive pack still worth it? I think probably not as the car has had the engine oil and microfilter services done. I'm struggling to find a definitive service interval list and service pricing.

What's everyone's thoughts? I think the dealer will honour a refund if I ask for it soon as they agreed that the car had not been serviced during the sale.

Thanks!

I assume this is an AUC, if so I would check that it does not have 2 packs against it.

The original owner may have purchased a pack as well.

I thought that with pre owned BMW's they serviced them if due prior to sale.

I think it depends on how long you intend to keep the car and probably how much mileage you'll do. If it's 3 years and reasonable mileage then it might be worth keeping it. Believe me, it won't take long to rack up £425 of servicing at BMW so it should pay for itself.

My dealer thinks over 3 years on a 335d you could spend £1,000 on service so it's good value. Since I don't have my 335 yet others on here may be able to verify some of the running costs.

It was an AUC, but as it was their demonstrator the dealer hadn't bought the service pack.

They do service them prior to sale... however it wasn't due. That's what has baffled myself and the sales guy - it was saying 6k miles to service when we last checked!

I will keep the car for at least 3 years but do 15k+ per year and the car is currently 12k, so the 50k limit will come up first. Really, I'm just trying to figure out if I will spend £425 in servicing before 50k miles considering the first engine oil check has already been done.

Ask dealer how much for next servicing.

Personally I like servicing packs, usually when buying a car I have the extra for the pack. In 2 years time it means I don't have to fork out 200 on service etc.

Assuming it's the first three years of the car's life, and mileage of less than 38K, there is only one service in that time at 19K or 2yrs. Not sure that would equate to £1k.

I got a service pack as well, I'm told they change the brake fluid every 2 years so I doubt I'll lose out much on what I paid, and I get free oil top-up when needed

My AUC car had a service pack on it, which I saw on the sales agents computer as well as other spec, but wanted to charge me for a new one. Than never mentioned it.

Called BMW UK who said in one place it does and another it doesn`t. I pressume the dealer took it off!

In a similar vein (and sorry to slightly hijack) I have just bought an ex-demo 320i m-sport that is 8 months old and has 2,000 miles on the clock.

I have been offered the £425 pack, but with 5yrs or 50,000 miles terms (not 3 yrs). I do about 8-10k a yr in mileage.

I apparently have 60days to decide from first purchase (2 weeks ago). What do you think - worth it? Seems like as long as I get 2 services into that window its worth it - sound right?

Not taking into account option value of having cash in hand now, etc, but that might be getting slightly out of hand...

It's the same pack (5 years, 50k), and if the vehicle hasn't had a service I think it's definitely worth it.

I'm just a bit dubious about it for myself as it's already had one of the more expensive services, so I'm not getting as much value for money.

If it's 5 years then even if it's had a service you are likely to need 2 more. This will include at a minimum standard scope, brake fluid, oil service, microfilter so easily top £425.
If it's only 3 years then much harder to call.
If you want pricing then try maindealerdiscount.com, put in the details of a 320d of different ages and it will show you discounted and regular prices although because of condition based servicing you will have to select the services that you want.

One additional benefit for me is that I live in London, so with my E90 used to always book it in for services at the main dealership where my parents live in the North West as savings (based on getting quotes) were usually in the order of 20-25% - guess just due to cheaper labour. This is fine but slightly inconvenient.

However, the service pack will at least allow me to get them done at London-based main dealers at no additional charge

£425 is a bargain. I had my second service last week at 38000 miles and it cost £473.42.
