BMW LIGHT DAYS WORKSHOP
Last night we at BIMMERPOST were invited to test the new headlight features of current BMW models and also to take a look into the future of BMW lighting at BMW’s Light Days Workshop. We share the info and experience with you below.
To start, BMW AG gave us a little history of BMW headlight design on past BMW models. BMW has been using the double round headlights since 1963 on the e3 and e9 models. In 1990 BMW was the first in production to offer xenon headlamps for the e34 and e38 models.
Starting with the e39 BMW introduced Angel Eye (Corona) rings. These rings serve two purposes – as DRL (daytime running lamps) and for styling. They makes a BMW instantly … CONTINUED
CAR has posted its effusive full BMW i8 test drive review, which resulted in a full 5-star rating for overall rating, handling, performance usability and “feelgood factory.”
Here are some of the most telling excerpts from the review:
Play it right, and Eco Pro can extend the range over the regular Comfort mode, from 310 to 370 miles. Flick the gear selector left, to engage Sport mode. The dials switch to a bright red glow, any throttle resistance is replaced by eagerness. The six-speed automatic – already responsive in Eco Pro mode – shifts like lightning in Sport.
There may be a tiny turbocharged three with a balancer shaft behind you, but the petrol engine now snarls as you demand more from the i8. The three-cylinder is … CONTINUED
We have posted a rare in-car i8 acceleration launch video to our YouTube page.
Our video shows the i8′s gauge graphics as the car accelerates in Sport Mode, as well as providing a listen at the i8′s raw mechanical sounds as it accelerates. While the production i8 will be equipped with Active Sound Design (enhanced interior sound technology), this particular car we’re hearing has its Active Sound Design (ASD) disabled for testing purposes. ASD will not be able to be turned off by the driver in the production model (though BIMMERPOST members have found workarounds on other BMW models). ASD will sound different depending on the selected driving mode(s) – Sport, Comfort, Eco Pro.
Another interesting feature we’ve learned is about the i8′s exterior sound. The … CONTINUED
Whatcar? brought in some enthusiasts and potential buyers to preview and give their impressions on the BMW i8.
Here’s what they had to say.
Beautiful images and a great writeup about the BMW i8 by Stanceworks.
With the completion of the development work and final preparations for production at the BMW Group plant in Leipzig, the launch of the BMW i8 approaches its peak. Delivery of the first customer cars will start in June 2014, beginning with the main European markets.
Beforehand, special public events will be held in various regions all over the world to meet the enormous interest in the BMW i8. For this purpose BMW i agents will be equipped with separate demonstration vehicles. The start of series production of customer vehicles will commence in April. Customers have already been able to place pre-orders for the BMW i8 in all major markets since autumn 2013.
However, demand for the BMW i8 is already exceeding the planned production volume during … CONTINUED
The very first BMW Art Car, a BMW 3.0 CSL, designed by American artist Alexander Calder, will be a key highlight of a class of BMW 3.0 CSLs at the 2014 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. The class will include both the winners of the 1975 Twelve Hours of Sebring and the 1976 Daytona 24 Hour race. BMW Group Classic will showcase the heritage of the BMW 3 Series in a display that will feature a first-generation 3 Series in the US, the 320i, as well as the first BMW 3 Series Convertible. The BMW 320 Turbo race car, driven to multiple IMSA wins, poles, and track records in 1977/78 by racer David Hobbs will also be a highlight. On display throughout the weekend will … CONTINUED
