Active Autowerke held its 30th anniversary spring social this past weekend. Attendance was high and the rides were stunning. A slew of photos and a video from the enthusiast gathering have been posted inside.
A BMW spokesperson has confirmed to Road and Track that that the M3 Pickup recently spotted testing at the Nürburgring is not headed for production. “BMW M did indeed create the pick-up seen on the ’Ring, but it was just an internal project, not something that is in development,” explained Dave Buchko, BMW Advanced Powertrain & Heritage Communications Manager. “There are no plans to produce it.”

BMW continues to prepare for their re-entry to the German Touring Car Championship DTM beginning in 2012. Rumors abound yesterday about the BMW Ring-Taxi possibly not returning in 2011. However, reports of its death has been greatly exaggerated. The Ring-Taxi is not going away, but changing forms. We were able to reach out and receive official word from BMW M on the matter. The official situation is:

BMW today announced a new M Performance exhaust system specifically designed as an accessory for the BMW M3 Coupe, Sedan and Convertible. With the racetrack and the street in mind, this new exhaust system is crafted from an extremely heat-resistant and lightweight chrome-nickel alloy called Inconel®. This flow optimized exhaust system reduces exhaust backpressure and allows the M3’s 414 horsepower V8 engine to produce an even more powerful sound.
