We had the chance to speak to BMW NA M Brand Manager Matt Russell and BMW M Marketing Director Thomas Schemera at the 2012 NYIAS about many things M. We covered some hot topics/models, including the M5, M6, M3 (current and future generation) and M Performance Automobiles.

Can you tell us about the changes to the 2013 M5 from the 2012 M5? Why the wait for the 2013 model year for the US market?
It’s nothing major. It’s small things; it’s electronics underneath, little computer things. … CONTINUED
On display at the 2012 NYIAS is a gorgeous frozen blue metallic M3 coupe. Frozen blue metallic paint is available as a BMW Individual color, which (if you remember) can be ordered through any US BMW dealer.
One thing we’ve reconfirmed at the show is that the E92 M3 coupe will see production into mid-2013 and the E93 M3 convertible will end a few months after that. So, there WILL be a 2013 model year M3 coupe and convertible, despite recent faulty information from some dealers.
As for … CONTINUED
Here is a brief but telling clip of the F10 M5′s sounds versus that of the E92 M3. Both are powered by a V8, but the M5 features a 4.4L bi-turbo V8 pumping out 560hp while the M3 is powered by a 4.0L naturally aspirated 414hp V8. Video by, courtesy of, and thanks to ednet01.
While we’ve seen many of our worldwide members taking deliveries of their 2012 F10 M5, none have yet been delivered to North America. Canada should see the first deliveries in just weeks … CONTINUED
Here’s a sight not easily or commonly seen – two of the rarest and fastest production M3s ever made. Both the E46 M3 CSL and E92 M3 GTS were lightweight models of the standard M3 with a modest power bump. Each also figured other upgraded components such as suspension and braking.
Only 1,400 of the M3 CSL were produced for its only model year (2004). The M3 CSL was 240 pounds lighter than the regular M3 and featured a 17hp /1 lb-ft torque gain over the standard … CONTINUED
We’ve seen some major conversions and projects from our 1 series owners and this is one of the best yet. One 1ADDICTS member has taken his E82 120d and converted it into a 1M-bodied car with the S65 V8 engine from the M3!!
In addition to the engine transplant, the car had to have custom bodywork on rear fenders, 1M body panels fitted, M3/1M suspension fitted, exhaust made to fit the new body, and 1M 19″ wheels. The icing on the cake was retrofitting the … CONTINUED
Check out some photos from the Revscene Annual Spring Meet 2012, taking place in Vancouver, BC, this past weekend. 1/3 of the cars in attendance wore the BMW roundel.
Site member and renowned driver Advevo shows how much driving skill equalizes the power and performance difference between cars. The 1M is no slouch but on paper it gives up much to the lightweight M3 GTS, but Advevo manages to keep it a very close race on this Nurbrugring lap.
This lap by Advevo in his 1M was completed in just 7.45, an impressive task in and of itself.
Our Canadian members members hailing from the GTA (greater Toronto Area) are some of the biggest BMW enthusiasts around and it showed this past weekend when the GTA BMW M enthusiasts gathered for a hugely successful meet. Over 50 M cars showed up for the event. Most were current generation M3s but there were also older M3s, as well as Z4 Ms. Check out photos and videos from the event inside!
BMW Team RLL was victorious at this weekend’s exciting 12 Hours of Sebring race in Florida, at which BMW hosted a BMW Corral for local enthusiasts. Many of our site members were in attendance for the race and parked in the corral. On hand was the F10 M5 for everyone to ogle and check out.
BMW Team RLL had an excellent start to the 2012 American Le Mans Series season. At the 60th running of the 12 Hours of Sebring (US) the no. 56 BMW M3 GT claimed overall victory in the GT class after 307 laps of the “Sebring International Raceway” and a dramatic final stage of the race. Over the course of the thrilling marathon, Dirk Müller (DE), Joey Hand (US) and Jonathan Summerton (US) shared the driving duties.
