BMW’s second victory of its comeback season: Bruno Spengler (CA) won the sixth DTM race of the year at the Nürburgring (DE). The 28-year-old, at the wheel of the BMW Bank M3 DTM, crossed the line 6.703 seconds clear of runner-up Edoardo Mortara (IT, Audi). Martin Tomczyk (DE) came home in third in his BMW M Performance Parts M3 DTM.

For the third time in four seasons of American Le Mans Series competition, BMW Team RLL saw one if its BMW M3 GTs cross the Road America (US) finish line first to win the four-hour Road America Road Race Showcase. While the DTM event at the Nürburgring (DE) provides the back drop for the “40 Years of BMW M” celebrations this weekend, BMW Team RLL made the perfect birthday present by claiming GT victory in the sixth round of the ALMS.

No braking company has more panache all-around than AP Racing, not even Brembo. The Brembo Group purchased AP Racing (formerly Lockheed/AP founded in 1919) in 1999, yet each still operate separately today. Brembo’s headquarters are in Italy and AP is in England.
Both compete against each other in nearly all global racing series, with some mildly applied rules for OE accounts. Brembo is better equipped to handle the larger production runs (like Porsche, Mercedes, Nissan, Hyundai, Ford, GM, etc.) with factories in many countries, while AP Racing is often better suited for more specialized, short-run manufacturers (Bugatti, McLaren, Koenigsegg, Lotus, Pagani, Spyker, GTA, etc.). As always, there are exceptions to this paradigm, often due to long established technical or business relationships.

A 2014 M3 test prototype resumed testing at the Nurburgring yesterday and the strip tease continued by way of a possible (or intended) camouflage malfunction. Here’s what we see.
By coincidence (?), the passenger side lower front bumper camouflage was flapped open during the test runs, revealing and confirming the air curtain vents on the F80. Whether the camouflage was peeled back to feed air to the air curtains for testing purposes, resulted from a camouflage malfunction, or was purposely peeled back to tease us, matters not. What’s important is that we get the first clear look at the air curtain vent, which appears very large judging by the amount of space between the air curtain vent outline and the outer edge of the still camouflaged … CONTINUED
BMW has issue a service bulletin (SIB / TSB) which will allow dealers across the country to reprogram / code all BMW models with the Auto Start-Stop feature so that the system defaults to the “Last User mode” (last used setting) the next time that the car is turned on. VS Motorsports shows us the full installation process of an ESS VT Supercharger on the E92 M3. You won’t have to wait hours to see the process from beginning to end however, as the visuals have been truncated through a nice time lapse video. The ESS VT2-625 supercharger system features a Vortech V3 supercharger unit. It boosts the E90/E92 M3 up to 625 HP / 410 ft-kb torque @ 7.0 PSI. Actual install time is an estimated 8-14 hours.
