Contender: BMW 5 Series
By: Jonny Lieberman

We Like: Abusive amounts of power result in skull-cracking acceleration.

We Don’t Like: Hefty, complex, and surprisingly numb.

On this episode of Head 2 Head Jonny Lieberman is joined by Mike Shaffer and two extremely potent hyper sedans, the 2014 BMW M5 Competition and the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S Model. Between the two of them, these two mighty Germans produce 1152horsepower and 1092 pound-feet of torque. On paper. After a day of horsing around/testing Shaffer and Lieberman grow suspicious of each twin-turbo V-8′s actual output. So, they take them to the dyno gurus at K&N engineering to learn what’s what. Epic European Delivery report journal by BIMMERPOST member B-1 Pilot:

Just four days ago, we returned from an Epic European Delivery trip of my 2014 M5. In 10 days of travelling we visited 8 countries, drove 1800 miles, hit 162MPH, drove three laps around the Nürburgring, took 1200 pictures, shot 15 hours of video, and consumed copious amounts of good German beer and wine.

For my trip, I blended previous experiences, new knowledge learned here, and about 6 months of research to come up with our … CONTINUED

This time around it has something called the Competition Package, which adds a host of small adjustments and improvements in an effort to improve the car’s performance and the satisfaction it gives to its driver. BMW M always claims that it subscribes to no dogmas while considering all possibilities in developing new models. That now includes the possibility of all-wheel-drive M5 and M6 models.

In a recent interview with Motoring, BMW M CEO Dr. Friedrich Nitschke acknowledges that “I’ve looked at the numbers and 70 to 80 percent of E63 AMGs are all-wheel drive in the US now.”

He then confirms that: “On our cars we are thinking of all-wheel drive, but it won
