BMW unveiled their new M3 DTM racer (with paint and sponsor colors!) to the public at the Essen Motor Show (Essen Germany) this past weekend. The show goes until December 4th, 2011. IF you are a “car nut” (aren’t we all!) you ought to go if you are in the area. Here are some pics of the new M3 DTM car and its rivals (past and future). Racing game fanatics will soon have an extra item for their Christmas lists. Fanatec, a German company specializing in input devices for serious gamers, has revealed their BMW M3 GT2 Clubsport steering wheel. What’s so special about this steering wheel? It’s a dual-use actual steering wheel that is not only a gaming wheel but also genuine steering wheel.
This 350mm steering wheel is compatible with Fanatec’s Clubsport base for the Sony PS3 and the PC. At the heart of the base is a quick release system which allows the wheel to be installed and removed instantly.

Here is the first look at the BMW M3 DTM decked out in full M Performance gear. It was revealed this evening, two days prior to the car’s debut at the season ending DTM event at Hockenheim.
Speaking at the event, BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt, revealed that “The car’s aerodynamics were developed in close collaboration with the engineers from series production. The BMW Group boasts impressive resources in this field and the wind tunnels are ultra-modern. Munich/Atlanta, 1st October 2011. BMW has written another chapter in motorsport history in the USA at the finale of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS), the 1000-mile Petit Le Mans, at Road Atlanta, in Braselton, Georgia. BMW Team RLL won a second consecutive manufacturers’ championship in the GT class to complete a 2011 hat-trick of titles. The drivers’ and team championships had already been secured two weeks ago with one race still to go. The last time BMW achieved this feat was in 2001 with the BMW M3 GTR. BMW only returned to the ALMS with the BMW M3 GT in 2009.

Many 18 year olds have lofty car dreams, but few have accomplished what young 18 year old Bulgarian BMW enthusiast Denislav Shishev been able to do by transforming a junked Z3 M Coupe body into a V10 442rwhp M Coupe racer, powering just 3,130 pounds. The 5.0L V10 is the high powered motor from the E60 M5 and has been tuned to 530hp / 442 lb-ft torque for this race spec Z3.

Competing in the uber-competitive Rolex Sports Car Series Daytona Prototype class the Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates BMW Powered Riley clinched a second Engine Manufacturer’s title for BMW with a second place finish in the September 17 Emco Gears Classis. Winning five races, including the 2011 Rolex 24 at Daytona, during the season it was in fact the runner-up finish at Mid-Ohio that clinched the title as the points tie with Chevrolet (also with five wins) was decided by second place finishes.

A strong start to the season followed by consistent podium finishes throughout the midpoint of the year culminated in the first American Le Mans Series GT Driver championships for the No. 56 BMW Team RLL M3 GT of Dirk Muller and Joey Hand, and the second consecutive Team championship for BMW Team RLL.
