The BMW DTM drivers stopped in at BMW Plant Leipzig (DE) on their way to the eighth race of the DTM season in Oschersleben (DE). Bruno Spengler (CA), Dirk Werner (DE), Augusto Farfus (BR), Joey Hand (US), Martin Tomczyk (DE), Andy Priaulx (GB), Marco Wittmann (DE) and Timo Glock (DE) started their visit with an autograph session. Hundreds of BMW employees took the opportunity to meet and have their photo taken with the drivers.

BMW Team RLL finished third and fourth in today’s American Le Mans Series Grand Prix of Baltimore that will go into the record books as the shortest race in ALMS history due to a crash on the first lap that cost the event half of its duration.
The checkered flag flew only one-hour-and-fourteen-minutes after the green flag waved with Dirk Müller and Joey Hand finishing third in the No. 56 BMW Z4 GTE and the No. 55 machine of Bill Auberlen and Maxime Martin coming home fourth.

If you didn’t catch the news earlier, BMW has already announced (but not yet revealed) an M4 DTM car for the 2014 DTM race series.
The former head of BMW M GmbH and BMW Motorsports was killed this past weekend in a freak accident occurring during a motorcycle race at Brands Hatch. Kalbfell was competing in a practice session for historic machinery when he ran wide exiting Druids and fell on the run down to Graham Hill Bend, before being struck by a fellow competitor who was following closely behind.
He was taken by ambulance to Darneth Valley hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries.
The rain came down just in time for the start of the seventh DTM race of the season at the Nürburgring (DE), making it a real motorsport thriller and providing plenty of dramatic scenes. BMW Team RBM driver Augusto Farfus (BR), who had started from pole position, drove a flawless race in difficult conditions at the wheel of the Castrol EDGE BMW M3 DTM, and only lost out to the victorious Robert Wickens (CA, Mercedes). This was Farfus’ third podium of the season and the sixth of his DTM career.

While the four BMW DTM teams are hard at work preparing for the seventh race of the season at the Nürburgring, visitors to the automobile weekend in Pebble Beach, over 9,100 kilometres from the “Green Hell”, were treated to an exciting glimpse of the future: it was there that BMW M GmbH launched the BMW Concept M4 Coupé, an innovative high-performance sports car based on the new BMW 4 Series. This model also provides the first taste of the BMW M4 DTM, with which BMW Motorsport will compete in the popular touring car series next year.

BMW Team RLL suffered its second consecutive uncompetitive race, finishing seventh and eighth in today’s 2.45-hour American Le Mans Series Orion Energy Systems 245 at Road America, in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
Bill Auberlen and Maxime Martin finished seventh in the No. 55 Z4 GTE after starting from the seventh grid position. John Edwards and Dirk Müller started from the ninth spot and finished eighth in the No. 56 machine. The result dropped Müller from the lead to a three-way tie for second place in the driver’s championship.
Today’s finish was disappointing for BMW Team RLL following fifth and sixth place finishes in the last round at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (formally Mosport) and having won the GT class at Road America in three of the previous four … CONTINUED
The Brabham BT52 was a Formula One car designed for the Brabham team by longtime Brabham designer Gordon Murray for the 1983 season. The car ran on Michelin tyres and was powered by the massively powerful BMW M12/13 turbocharged engine which in 1983 produced about 850 bhp (630 kW) in qualifying trim, detuned to around 640 bhp (480 kW) for the races proper. Its drivers were 1981 World Champion Nelson Piquet and Riccardo Patrese.

BMW Team RBM’s Augusto Farfus (BR) finished third as the DTM made its debut at the “Moscow Raceway” to claim BMW Motorsport’s first podium finish since the race in Spielberg (AT). Farfus started from third in the Castrol EDGE BMW M3 DTM and successfully defended this position over the final few laps, fending off the attention of Adrien Tambay (FR, Audi), who was on far fresher tyres. The podium was the fifth of Farfus’ DTM career and marked the seventh time a BMW driver had been on the podium in the 2013 season. Victory went to Audi driver Mike Rockenfeller (DE).
Joey Hand (US) also put on an impressive display in his BMW M3 DTM, fighting back from 15th on the grid to come home seventh. … CONTINUED
