Here is a video recap of the very first M Festival and BMW’s 2nd place finish in the 24 Hour Nurburgring race. M Festival festivities took place next to the race track and included three days of fun for M enthusiasts, including M Night, M Coros, M Fan Flight, and M Party. Munich, 29th June 2011. An era has ended: On Wednesday Mario Theissen was officially bade farewell during an emotional event in Munich’s BMW Classic. On 1st July Jens Marquardt assumes sole responsibility for BMW’s motor racing projects.

More than 100 friends and associates from all phases of his career, including the reigning Formula 1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel, Nick Heidfeld, Alessandro Zanardi, Peter Sauber, Franz Tost, Norbert Haug, Stefano Domenicali and the current BMW works drivers, looked back together with Mario Theissen on the past years, obviously with a special focus set on his time as BMW Motorsport Director. During his 12-year tenure, Theissen celebrated innumerable victories and titles achieved in a variety of championships and series by BMW teams and drivers.

The Nurburgring 24 Hour Race has just recently concluded and the BMW No.1 M3 has managed to make the podium with a second place finish! Porsche managed to take the top spot. The No.1 M3 GT managed to consistently move up positions throughout the race. At the 12-13 hour mark, the No.1 M3 was still running 5th, but by the 14th hour, the M3 had moved up to the number 2 position.

Over 7 hours of the 24 Hours of Nurburgring race has been raced and the BMW Motorsports #1 M3 is currently running in 6th place. Unfortunately the #7 M3 is running several lapse behind. Inside are some links to follow the rest of the 24 Hour Nurburgring Race.

Our coverage from M Festival continues. BMW had an awesome lineup of cars at display during M Night, but besides the new M3 CRT and the new M5, there were also the M3 GT2 race car, an E46 M3 GTR and the E90 M3 Ring Taxi on display.

We’ll have our fingers crossed for BMW at the 24h race this upcoming weekend. In the meantime enjoy these photos! Thanks to Dackelone!!

As previously announced, BMW will be returning to DTM racing – beginning in the 2012 DTM season with a new M3 DTM race car. As part of the DTM event at Munich’s Olympic Stadium on 16th and 17th July 2011, BMW will present a BMW M3 DTM Concept Car for the first time.

Along with the 2012 DTM Concept Car, on display will be the 1987 BMW M3 DTM, the BMW M1 Procar from 1981, and the Mini Rally Monte Carlo car from the 1960s.

Le Mans, 12th June 2011. Twelve years after the BMW V12 LMR achieved its triumphant overall victory, BMW Motorsport is back on the podium at the Le Mans (FR) 24 Hours: In the hard-fought LM GTE class, Andy Priaulx (GB), Dirk Müller (DE) and Joey Hand (US) finished third in the no. 56 BMW M3 GT. Final-stint driver Hand crossed the finish line at the “Circuit de la Sarthe” after 313 thrilling laps and having covered a distance of over 4,200 kilometres.

In contrast, the drivers of the second BMW M3 GT, number 55 – Augusto Farfus (BR), Jörg Müller (DE) and Dirk Werner (DE) – left the endurance classic empty-handed. The trio had battled for 276 laps, repeatedly fighting their way back after being hampered by … CONTINUED
