Starting from fourth on the grid, the BMW Team MTEK driver produced a strong race in difficult conditions, crossing the line first after 41 laps in the DEUTSCHE POST BMW M3 DTM. In doing so, former Formula One driver Glock presented BMW Team MTEK with its maiden victory in only the team’s tenth race in the DTM. Bruno Spengler (CA) finished third in the BMW Bank M3 DTM to join Glock on the podium. BMW Z4 GTE Debut Season Yields Second in GT Class Manufacturer, Team and Driver Championships.
BMW Team RLL finished second and fourth in today’s American Le Mans Series Petit Le Mans. The 16th annual1000-mile race, held at Road Atlanta in Braselton, GA, concluded the debut season for the new BMW Z4 GTE with BMW finishing second in the GT class Manufacturer’s standings and BMW Team RLL second in the Team standings. Dirk Müller finished second in Driver points for the 2013 season.

After hearing the name “Chumpcar” for a few years now, I was determined to figure out what exactly this was. At first, I believed it was a goofy racing series where people decorated some $500 car and and then raced it around various tracks hoping to last through an endurance event. There is another series that is similar called “The 24 hours of Lemons”. A few months ago, we decided to go out to the track in Daytona and watch our very first Chumpcar race. Augusto Farfus (BR) won his second DTM race in a row at the wheel of the Castrol EDGE BMW M3 DTM. The BMW Team RBM driver dominated the penultimate race of the year in Zandvoort (NL) to claim his third win of the season. Starting from second on the grid, the 30-year-old immediately pulled ahead of BMW Team MTEK driver Marco Wittmann (DE), who was lining up on pole position for the first time in his fledgling DTM career, and was leading by the first corner. Despite another impressive display in Zandvoort, Farfus can no longer win the Drivers’ title at the final race of the season in Hockenheim. BMW Team RLL finished third and fourth in the inaugural American Le Mans Series (ALMS) race at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin (US). Both BMW Z4 GTEs ran strongly for the majority of the race, only to fall victim to the top speed advantage of the Corvettes and Vipers in the closing stages. John Edwards (US) and Dirk Müller (DE) claimed third in the number 56 BMW Z4 GTE for Müller’s second consecutive podium appearance. The result, combined with the withdrawal of the number 4 Corvette during the race, moves Müller to second in the GT driver standings, 13 points behind the leaders.

Augusto Farfus (BR) is back on the top step of the podium: the BMW Team RBM driver produced a flawless race in Oschersleben (DE) to win the eighth race of the DTM season, coming home 6.298 seconds ahead of Mike Rockenfeller (DE, Audi). The 30-year-old laid the foundations for his victory at the start, when he got away cleanly from second on the grid to pass Jamie Green (GB, Audi) and take the lead by the time he reached the first corner. It was the 57th win for BMW Motorsport in the DTM and the 49th for the BMW M3. Farfus celebrated his third victory in the popular touring car series, and his second of the season.

The BMW DTM drivers stopped in at BMW Plant Leipzig (DE) on their way to the eighth race of the DTM season in Oschersleben (DE). Bruno Spengler (CA), Dirk Werner (DE), Augusto Farfus (BR), Joey Hand (US), Martin Tomczyk (DE), Andy Priaulx (GB), Marco Wittmann (DE) and Timo Glock (DE) started their visit with an autograph session. Hundreds of BMW employees took the opportunity to meet and have their photo taken with the drivers.
The next highlight was a guided tour of the production facility for the BMW cars of tomorrow, the BMW i3 and the BMW i8. BMW Team RLL finished third and fourth in today’s American Le Mans Series Grand Prix of Baltimore that will go into the record books as the shortest race in ALMS history due to a crash on the first lap that cost the event half of its duration.
The checkered flag flew only one-hour-and-fourteen-minutes after the green flag waved with Dirk Müller and Joey Hand finishing third in the No. 56 BMW Z4 GTE and the No. 55 machine of Bill Auberlen and Maxime Martin coming home fourth.
