Following the successful season-opener in Hockenheim (DE), the podium at the second DTM race of the year again featured a BMW driver: BMW Team Schnitzer driver Bruno Spengler (CA) crossed the finish line in second place in the BMW Bank M3 DTM at the 1.929-kilometre “Brands Hatch Circuit”, a repeat of last year’s result. At the end of 98 laps, the reigning DTM champion came home 7.641 seconds behind winning Audi driver Mike Rockenfeller (DE). Robert Wickens (CA) finished third in his Mercedes to complete the podium.

Dirk Müller and John Edwards, driving the No. 56 BMW Z4 GTE, scored a third place finish in today’s four-hour American Le Mans Monterey race. A second consecutive podium finish for the No. 56 machine and a win for the No. 55 car at Long Beach in only the third race of the new program keeps BMW in second place in the GT class manufacturer point standings and moves Müller to the top of the GT class driver points.
Müller started the car from the eighth starting position and by lap 27 had moved up to fourth. Just past the first hour, on lap 45, he moved to third and stayed there until handing off to Edwards on lap 57 during the races third caution period. … CONTINUED

The 2013 One Lap of America got underway at 8:30 this morning with the traditional Wet Skid Pad event at Tire Rack’s Headquarters in South Bend, Indiana. Usually we’re greeted with cool temperatures and occasional showers, but for a change we had bright sunny skies and a large crowd was on hand to watch the competition unfold. This particular test requires each competitor to drive two laps of the 200ft wet skid pad in a clockwise direction followed by a further two laps in an anticlockwise direction, with the your result determined by the combined G’s of the two runs.

Just days ahead of the start of the new DTM season, BMW Team Schnitzer driver Bruno Spengler (CA) already has his first race at the Hockenheimring (DE) under his belt – although it did come at the wheel of a somewhat alien car to the Canadian. BMW Motorsport invited the reigning DTM champion and 1989 winner Roberto Ravaglia (IT) to a very special “Generation Game”.
Both drivers brought with them the cars with which they won their DTM titles. Spengler triumphed last season with the current BMW M3 DTM, while Ravaglia was crowned DTM Champion at the wheel of the BMW M3 in 1989. However, it was all change in Hockenheim. The streets of Long Beach, California continue to be the favorite stomping grounds of BMW Team RLL as they finished 1-2 in today’s American Le Mans at Long Beach race. In only the second race for the new BMW Z4 GTE, the team beat a very competitive GT class field with excellent strategy set in place during the first hour of the two-hour contest around the 1.968-mile, 11-turn temporary street circuit. BMW Team RLL has finished with at least one car on the Long Beach podium, including a win from the pole in 2011, for five consecutive years. The eight BMW DTM M3 cars which will race for BMW Motorsports in the upcoming 2013 DTM season were recently unveiled at a special event at BMW Welt. Prior to that however, the team was busy test driving and making preparations for the upcoming season at Valencia and Jerez tracks in Spain.
The eight BMW drivers will next test their cars at Hockenheim (Germany) for the final pre-season test, ahead of the start of the season in four weeks time. Enjoy the sights and sounds below!
Exciting news for auto racing fans, including BMW Motorsports fans. GRAND-AM Road Racing and the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA), which administers the popular German DTM racing series, have entered into a cooperation agreement to bring a version of DTM to North America. The earliest the new series would begin would be 2015.
If this comes to fruition, not only would we see BMW DTM cars racing against Audi and Mercedes DTM in North America, but also again Japanese Super GT cars from Honda, Nissan and Toyota, and American manufacturers’ entries.
