BMW Team RLL finished third and fourth in today’s American Le Mans Series Grand Prix of Baltimore that will go into the record books as the shortest race in ALMS history due to a crash on the first lap that cost the event half of its duration.

We’ve heard the upcoming M3/M4 at high speeds on the Nurburgring, but haven’t had many chances to hear it accelerating from a stop. Well, here’s a good listen, as this F80 M3 prototype was spotted by BIMMERPOST member KKM3 on the Pacific Coast Highway last night.

The M3 here doesn’t accelerate to redline nor at wide open throttle, and the clip is short, but we nonetheless get a good sound preview of the car’s inline 6 cylinder S55 engine and exhaust.

If BMW insider Scott26 is to be believed, a BMW Z5 roadster and Z5 coupe will be spawned from the joint sports car collaboration between BMW and Toyota.

The Z5 roadster is said to feature design, both exterior and interior from BMW and BMW engines. Toyota will supply optional hybrid technology and BMW will supply CFRP in its construction.

On the Toyota side, this project is expected to spawn the Supra revival.
