The latest airing of Fifth Gear had Jason Plato searching for the best daily driver used sports car buy for under $7,000 (£5,000). He narrowed his choices down to the E85 Z4, Boxster S and RX-8.
This particular Z4 had 80,000 miles but was still in excellent condition, garnering it Plato’s pick as the best daily driver and practical choice with the best interior, most refinement, best build quality and gas consumption.
The segment provides some tips on what to be wary of when shopping preowned E85 Z4s – listen for a rattling noise from the upper valve train assembly, which could mean that the VANOS unit requires replacing (cost is approximately $1500 for such a fix at the dealer). The first uncovered F10 5 Series LCI facelift/update was spotted last week, but it was captured in some less than ideal quality photos. Our new spy photos, taken at an official BMW photoshoot, give us a clear look at the F10 LCI’s front fascia. What’s confirmed once again is that the styling updates are rather minor.
Overall, the F10 LCI styling changes give the 5 Series a more updated and sportier look. The 2014 5 Series receives sleeker looking headlights and optional LED headlights with squared-off angel eyes / corona rings (as equipped on this model). BMW has released some new videos for the BMW Concept Active Tourer, which will serve as the basis for the upcoming FWD BMW 1 Series GT (Gran Turismo).
The first clip highlights the versatility and multi-use function that the 1 Series GT will serve, for many types of lifestyles and activities. This is the video which was on played at the BMW Concept Active Tourer display at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.

Making its debut at the 2013 Geneva motor show is this M135i F21 hatchback, by Swiss tuner, Sportec.
Sportec’s tuning program offers two stages. The first stage includes software tuning only, which upgrades the M135i’s N55 power output to 355 hp (from the factory 315 hp). The second stage includes the software upgrades from Stage 1, plus downpipes and new exhaust system (with titanium tail pipes), which combine to give the M135i 370 hp.
At 370 hp, Sportec claims that the M135i’s 0-62 mph (0-100 kmh) time drops to just 4.6 seconds, with a top speed of 171 mph (up from 155 mph from the factory).
The Sportec M135i rides on a set of lightweight 19″ forged SP10 wheels (available in matte titanium, semi gloss black or white).… CONTINUED

On the first weekend of May 2013 the Hockenheimring will host the curtain-raiser to the German Touring Car Masters (DTM) season – and the opening salvo in BMW Motorsport’s title defence. Following the drivers’ and manufacturers’ title-winning exploits of Canada’s Bruno Spengler and BMW in the brand’s comeback season of 2012, all eyes are now on the latest version of the victorious BMW M3 DTM. However, the undercard for the first of the season’s ten races will also be worth a look, as BMW Group Classic sends two legends of the track back into the limelight. According to the China Car TImes, “Zhi Nuo” translates into “The Promise”, which will be the name of a new joint venture between BMW and China’s Brilliance car company.
They expect the new Zhi Nuo cars to be based on existing BMW platforms, namely the E90 3-Series. Chinese media are basing their reports on registration data about a new brand which was established jointly composited with simultaneously floating rumors about an E90 3-series and X1 platformed car to be used by a new joint brand. No official announcement has been made as of yet, but all eyes are on the upcoming Shanghai autoshow for more details.
