Headlining today’s press day at the 2013 New York International Auto Show and making their North American debuts are the BMW 328d, 3 Series GT and Concept Active Tourer.
The 328d (info) and a 320i (info) will join the 335i and 328i this summer in the F30 3 Series lineup. The 328d will be powered by a TwinPower Turbo 4 cylinder engine, outputting 180 hp / 280 lb-ft of torque and accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.2 seconds, while getting mileage that could exceed 40 mpg (official US EPA estimates will be available closer to the launch of the 328d).
The FWD plug-in hybrid Concept Active (info) Tourer makes its first appearance at a North American auto show so that BMW can gauge whether … CONTINUED
Yesterday, we brought you news of the availability of the F30 335i M Performance Power Kit (PPK) [full details].
The PPK increases the 335i’s horsepower from 300 to 320hp (official factory quoted figures) on all models. Automatic transmission models will experience a +32 lb-ft peak torque increase (to 332 lb-ft), while manual transmission-equipped models benefit from a +17 lb-ft peak torque increase (to 317 lb-ft). 0-60mph acceleration is improved 0.2 seconds compared to standard 335i models, while 50-75mph times drop by a full half-second.
Well, these figures are conservative, as they often are from BMW. The following video shows the E90 335i PPK (also factory quoted at 320hp 332 lb-ft) producing 336 bhp / 377 lb-ft torque on the dyno (performed by Dinan and at a 15% … CONTINUED

Last week, when BMW revealed its new ad signature tone [listen here], we mentioned how much development time and attention was paid to all the sounds that a BMW model makes.
BMW has posted a video which provides more insight into this sound design process.
We have looked at the F32 4 Series Coupe against the E92 3 Series Coupe (comparison pics), now let’s look at how the 4 Series Coupe looks against its most direct competitor in the marketplace - the Audi A5 Coupe.
Compared to the A5 Coupe, the 4 Series Coupe in concept form is:
+ 0.6 inches (16mm) length
- 1.8 inches (28mm) width
- 0.5 inches (12mm) height
+ 2.3 inches (59mm) wheelbase
Note: these are calculated using concept (not production) 4 Series dimensions.
As for the aesthetics, well, that’s subjective of course, but we think that overall (except maybe the front end, which still isn’t totally clear in the spy photos) the F32 looks sportier and more athletic than the A5.
As expected, the 2014 F10 M5 will be receiving a LCI update/facelift together with the F10 5 Series. The 5 Series LCI facelift has already been partially revealed, but it’s been unknown how much of the M5’s design would be affected.
These spy photos show that the F10 M5 will receive the same upper front fascia and headlight updates [pics] as the 5 Series, but will receive no changes to the lower front bumper design. Like the 5 Series, the F10 M5 will also receive light updates to its tail lights and lower rear bumper.
The 5 Series LCI will receive tweaks to its steering, but it’s not yet known if the F10 M5 will be affected by this, or receive any other mechanical updates.
The BMW 6 Series Coupe, Convertible, and Gran Coupe models will enter the 2014 model year with a stronger line-up than ever, thanks to new enhancements and a limited edition of the Convertible model sure to make heads turn.
Limited to only 100 copies, the new 2014 BMW 6 Series Convertible Frozen Brilliant White Edition will be produced in April and early May, 2013, and will be instantly recognizable both inside and out. Available as a rear-wheel drive 650i, or 650i xDrive model featuring BMW’s intelligent all-wheel drive system, the Frozen Brilliant White Edition will have a starting MSRP of $106,695 and 110,095, respectively (prices include $895 Destination & Handling), and will arrive at Authorized BMW Centers this May. Contents signature to the Edition include BMW … CONTINUED
