We just got the first camouflage-free look at the next BMW X1′s front fascia (minus headlights) during hot-weather tests in the California desert.
Up until now, all X1s have had their entire front fascias covered in plastic panels, hiding all signs of its true front-end design treatment. Those panels impede airflow, however, so the test team wanted to get an accurate reading on the cooling performance of the production front-end in the 120-degree heat. BMW AG recently permitted the German fire department to test accident rescue techniques on the new i-cars at the BMW Welt. Carbon fiber is stronger than steel, but it presents its own unique set of problems for first responders as can be seen on this i3. One of the problems is the toxic carbon fiber dust emitted when cutting body panels apart. This is why occupants and first responders must wear masks when cutting the lightweight panels apart. A special BMW M235i Track Edition model has been introduced in the Netherlands.
The “exclusive” and “sporty” version of the M235i Coupe incorporates numerous BMW M Performance parts, including an aerodynamics package, a special exhaust system and a limited slip differential.
