It all started with an X. This letter was first used as a model designation for a BMW automobile as early as in the mid-1980s to indicate that it featured four-wheel drive technology. The car’s dual symmetry was the ideal allegory for the transmission of drive torque to all four wheels. 15 years ago, the letter X became the symbol of an entirely new vehicle category and, at the same time, of a very special form of driving pleasure. The BMW X5 made its … CONTINUED
Large-scale manufacturing of cars made with lightweight carbon fiber is moving closer to reality as costs start to fall, according to a materials-development group that has BMW AG as a partner.

On the Monday morning after Germany had won the football World Cup final against Argentina, the Landshut/Ellermühle speedway stadium at the AC Landshut club witnessed one of sport’s more unusual match-ups. It was the first time a representative of a leading German car magazine took a BMW M235i with M Performance Parts onto the almost 400-metre-long track to compete in a drifting contest against BMW motorcycle dealer and four-times dirt-track world champion Karl Maier on a speedway bike.

Yes, this looks like a next generation G11 7 Series prototype. But, look closer and you will see BMW has ingeniously added weights to the roof (and inside the car) and raised the hood to accommodate a different engine/intake setup in order to “test” the basic X7 drivetrain package.
The X7 will be a seven seater SAV and has already been announced for production at the Spartanburg plant in the future.
German tuning firm, Manhart, has posted teasers of its supposed upcoming BMW i8. Though these are just photoshopped images for now, it appears that they plan to maintain the factory exterior while adding bright dashes of paints on some accent pieces, as well as aftermarket wheels and lowering the suspension.
The more important question is what, if any, performance modification plans the tuner has for the i8. That should be answered in time.
BMW has issued a service action for BMW F82 M4 coupes produced from March 2014 to July 2014 for a missing CAN Terminating Resistor. The missing resistor creates various issues and after the fix, DCT performs better and the exhaust is louder, as reported by 2 owners. There is no relevant SIB for F80. Looks like M3 sedans are unaffected.
