The MINIe project is currently in a phase you could call, a long term real world field test stage. It is in fact the first EV produced by a major auto manufacturer and driven by private motorists on public roads, however, the car can only be leased for a 12 month period and then given back to MINI. The program was eventually extended to get more miles on the road with these cars.

Congrats to Team BMW RLL on taking the pole position for tomorrow’s Long Beach ALMS race! Joey Hand took pole position in the No. 56 M3 GT with a time of 1:19.090 and Bill Auberlen will start in the #3 position tomorrow. Tomorrow’s ALMS race will be short and furious – only 2 hours from beginning to end, and will be run on a tight street course, so a good starting position was crucial.

For those of you that aren’t aware of it, SAAB has been undergoing massive financial disaster. This has seen the company sold off by GM into the hands of niche swedish car maker Spyker, who then subsequently sold off their own car making operations in order to keep SAAB afloat. They have even recently considered selling their production plants in order to pay off suppliers getting increasingly angry over unpaid bills.

BMWNA and its new top marketing executive, Dan Creed, is currently searching for a new ad agency to help spend its estimated $160 million advertising budget. And the vast majority of the budget will go towards TV advertising. The advertising budget breakdown, as Creed told dealers at the National Automobile Dealers Association convention in February will be: 68% for national TV, 8% for local TV, 15% for digital marketing (internet and mobile device ads), 2% in movies, and 7% for print advertising.

Audi’s all new Q3 has just been released, which was not unexpected considering Audi has a vehicle in every segment that BMW has one.
The new Q3 is certainly aesthetically pleasing, but when I first saw it, I didn’t have a strong reaction one way or the other. I think that is a function of the fact that like most Audis today, it is fairly similar to every other Audi product, especially the Q5. So while it’s not ugly, it is a bit booring to me.
