On the heels of the big BMW turbo 4-cylinder news yesterday, SCOTT26 has provided some dates for the switchover of certain BMW models from the current inline 6-cylinder to the new twinpower turbo I4 motor, as well as the end of production of the current 3-series, M3 and 1-series.

Here are the first photos of BMW’s exciting new twinpower turbo inline 4-cylinder engine. The official specs from BMW claim that the motor makes 245HP and 350Nm of torque, while giving 35.7 MPG.
Following BMW’s announcement yesterday, here’s full information on the M-Sport Package for the BMW X1. As you can see from the pictures, most prominent feature is the M aerodynamics package including M door sills and High Gloss Shadow Line. The M-Sport Pack for the X1 features 17-inch double spoke M alloy wheels standard with 18-inch double spoke M alloy wheels (shown here) being available as option. Also included: Sports seats in cloth and alcantara (think E9x 3-series M-Sport), an brushed aluminum interior trim and an alcantare headliner.

BMW gave us a real treat in the Arctic north today! Sure sure, this is another set of pictures of the F20 1-Series hatch, but look closely, there is something new and different here. BMW had previously removed almost all the masking tape from the hood to give us an advance snapshot of the styling language we should expect to see on the next generation 1-Series and 3-Series. However, before the cars were a bland silver color which hid the true depth to the styling. Now with a sparkling red color, we can see the depth in the lines of the hood.

As part of BMWs press release on the new X1 xDrive28i was included information on an all new TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder engine, which Im sure we will be seeing more of across the entire BMW lineup. This engine seems to be strongly based on the 6-cylinder counterpart and we can expect to see it come in a variety of displacements.
Tonight, BMW dropped a bit of a bombshell, very discreetly and buried within a press release about a new edition to the BMW X1 family. BMW has as of now officially launched the new BMW X1 xDrive28i.
The xDrive28i is the familiar X1 we already know and love but now has under its hood a brand new 2.0L gas powered 4-Cylinder engine which uses BMWs TwinPower turbo technology, good for 245HP and 350Nm of torque. You can read all about this bombshell of a new engine in our separate post here.

It’s been nearly 4 months since the all new 2013 M6 convertible was spotted, but it’s appeared yet again, and in the most unlikely time and place possible – Northern Sweden in the dead of winter. Now that the 6-series convertible has been officially debuted, BMW has moved onto the development of the top of the line 6-series cabrio.
The M6 prototype now sports the production M6 bumper underneath heavy front camouflage. Other signature M features already seen are the quad exhausts and huge front brakes. The wheels seen here are winter wheels/tires for testing purposes only.

German AMS has published an interesting article comparing the BMW 525d sedan with the Jaguar XF 3.0 V6 D.
Unlike the name suggests, the 525d is powered by BMW’s N57 3.0l inline-6 Diesel engine, yet with a lower output of 204hp and 450 NM (530d: 258hp). It’s quite popular in Europe because it’s the entry level inline-6 Diesel. The car tested was matched with the optional 8-speed automatic.
Just like the name suggests, the Jaguar XF 3.0 V6 D is powered by a 275ph 3.0l V6 Diesel engine. The test car was equipped with a six-speed automatic which AMS considers a good match despite lacking the refinement of BMW’s automatic.

The guys over @ Motor Trend have put up this mega 11 page comparison between the large sedan offerings from all the usual suspects in the large luxury sedan game. But they didn’t just make this a booring old comparison, they threw in all the non-traditional offerings that are available from automakers you wouldn’t have expected 10, 5 or even 1 year ago.
