The story of an exception: the BMW M3 is 25.

The anticipation began in August 1985. That summer Germany’s automobile magazines built up their readers’ expectations for the fastest 3 Series BMW of all times. The key data revealed a sports car that would punch way above its class: 200 hp, top speed in excess of 230 km/h, sprint from a standing start to 100 km/h inside 6.7 seconds. However, the story was that “the most dynamic BMW 3 Series drivers” would have to wait until mid-1986. The pundits were right on that count. Here are some updates on the upcoming BMW 1M — “1M” appears to be settled name for the new M-level 1-series. It is currently shooting on Lanzarotte, a Spanish volcanic island, but will shoot in LA later this summer. Look to AutoBild’s latest issue for a feature on the BMW 1 Concept M.

A new BMW interface for controlling the iPhone and iPod Touch is coming! BMW will soon be utilizing the new iPod-OUT feature of Apples new operating system (iOS4) for these devices. Future BMW owners will be able to use the infotainment system to display and control iPhone/iPod Touch music playback features in the vehicles main display.

We bring you the most revealing top-down photos yet of the F13 6-series convertible – a 640, as well as a top-up 640 convertible in a new color. The 2012 6-series convertible will have a traditional folding soft top (but a factory fitted optional hardtop will be available). Production of the 640 convertible will begin in September 2011.

After being on sale on the global automotive market for five successful years, the BMW M5 has ended its production lifespan with a new record high. The BMW M GmbH produced a total of 20,548 of the charismatic high-performance sports car featuring a V 10-cylinder power unit. The BMW M5 Saloon is accountable for 19,523 of these, with the BMW M5 Touring, which was first launched in 2007, contributing a further 1025 units towards the overall result. A lucky customer attending Goodwood Festival of Speed over the weekend had a chance to test drive the F10 B5 Bi-Turbo around a track. Check out the walkaround and some of the furious acceleration from this 500+hp / 700tq monster F10. You can actually hear the rear passenger exclaim in delight during acceleration.
