The LCI refresh model for the current F07/F10/F11 5 Series begins production this month, but BMW has already begun testing the next generation 5 Series. We’ve spotted the next gen 5 Series Touring here.
The next 5 Series is said to be shedding some weight, hopefully by way of the carbon fiber technologies which the next generation G11 7 Series will receive.
At this early testing stage, much of the car is still covered in heavy camouflage, but we’ve put together some comparison photos below.

BMW is expanding its BMW Apps option for the Apple iPhone. The latest partners offering BMW-approved Apps include Deezer (subscription music service), Napster by Rhapsody (subscription music service), TuneIn (Internet radio), Audible (downloadable audio books and other spoken-word content) and Glympse (temporary location sharing in real-time). These new services will broaden the flexibility and usability of the industry’s leading smartphone integration solution. BMW drivers can use the new services safely and conveniently in the usual way, via the iDrive Controller.

The F80 M3 has been spotted with a camouflaged roof. How is this significant? Well, its brother, the F82 M4 Coupe has often been spotted with a camouflaged roof (as well as an optional top with moonroof), which typically indicates the presence of a carbon fiber roof, but the F80 M3 Sedan has never been seen with a camouflaged top, until now.
This F80 M3 prototype was spotted by a BIMMERPOST member while it undergoes hot weather testing in Las Vegas (where it recently hit 117F degrees) and is accompanied by some F15 X5 M prototypes. BMW Group achieved its highest sales for the first six months of the year, with a total of 954,521 vehicles delivered worldwide, an increase of 6.0% over the same period last year (prev. yr. 900,566). Sales in June also reached an all-time high with 184,489 vehicles sold worldwide last month, an increase of 6.9% over the previous year (172,528).
