The new BMW Alpina D3 Bi-Turbo saloon has arrived on UK showroom floors priced at 29,950 GBP when equipped with a manual gearbox and at 31,585 GBP when opted with an automatic transmission. Based on the recently facelifted BMW 3-Series sedan, the Alpina D3 utilizes a modified version of the 123d’s 2.0-liter twin-turbocharged 4-cylinder diesel engine producing an output of 214HP at 4,100 rpm and an M3-beating 450Nm (332 lbs)of torque at 2,000 – 2,500 rpm.

Being the tech-savvy company it is (or at least it wants to show that it is), BMW has released a new game for the iPhone and iPod Touch to show off its new Z4 Roadster. The game that can be downloaded for free from Apple is inspired from the BMW Z4′s “An Expression of Joy” campaign and it allows players to “draw” using the wheels of their car by choosing different colors of paint so that their tire tracks create drawings.

BMW is pushing ahead with its second-generation Efficient Dynamics green car technology – with help from space scientists at NASA.
Employing a thermoelectric generator similar in principle to those developed to power satellites will, according to BMW’s head of development Klaus Draeger, boost economy by some 5% on the combined cycle. Expect to see the new Efficient Dynamics tech in showrooms by 2014.

In what appears to be more the result of the ongoing global economic and financial crisis than anything else, BMW reported that in the first two months of 2009, its Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) sales in the U.S. are up by a staggering 24 percent to 19,000 units and the company is on track to beat last year’s record number of 104,000 units.
