The first confirmed prototype for the next-generation BMW M5 has been spotted testing on the Nürburgring. A thin fabric bra covering the prototype’s front fascia can’t hide the clear M-style front-bumper design. With BMW M’s trademark quad exhaust set-up poking out from the rear bumper, and large, cross-drilled rotors accenting the beefed-up braking system, the prototype has all of the necessary ///M cues.
Reports still vary on what engine will power the next M5. Earlier reports spoke of increasing the displacement of today’s 5.0-liter V10 to 5.5-liters, perhaps augmented with turbocharging. With the arrival of the twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engines in the X5M and X6M, new reports suggest that this engine may be on tap for the next M5 and M6 as well. <br /><br />

The E89 Z4 is now testing at the ring with its Msport body (or performance aero kit) ! This is potentially the 3.5iM, a slightly uprated power version of the standard 3.5i.
From the Frankfurt IAA, the BMW U.S. chief has confirmed BMWs plans to finally introduce a 4-cylinder (turbo) engine based 3-series into the U.S. BMW lineup (to debut in the F30 3-series). This will first occur in the Spring of 2012 for the next generation F30 3-series.

Indeed, MINI has chosen the perfect time to reveal two new cars in its portfolio. The MINI Coupe and Roadster, being called the ‘Oxford Twins’ (named after the factory where they are to be produced), help take the MINI brand into the direction of sport enthusiast cars.
Both of these cars are said to be ‘design studies’ but don’t forget BMWs tradition of rolling out production cars at auto shows under the moniker of a concept car, and these cars are certainly production ready examples.

Qadbak Investments, Ltd, a swiss-based foundation which represents the private interests of Middle Eastern and European based families will purchase the Sauber F1 team. The contrast was officially signed today after BMW felt comfortable that the team would be financially taken care of by the new owners. BMW has wished the team every success and so do we!
